No offence dp - only joshing
hehe... None Taken

I think(obviously) That the internet is a free place, where even a little, skinny factory worker like me can give something back to the world of caving, However Small..

So let us give a little and don't worry guys, people will always come here before looking at the other forums, myself included.

And even though i am one of the sinners who also runs a general caving forum, I will always contribute to this, and other cavers forums....

So live and let live, lets not waste time (and forum space) bitching about each other..

I like the fact that this forum is totally non-commercial and don't see any reason why bubba should promote it. The forum is THE best source of up-to-date caving information that I have (not being a club member) and it also provides a bit of social distraction. To be honest there are probably enough helpful and knowledgable people posting regularly on here already to answer any question you may have.

The ukclimbing site is now run as a commercial operation and it's plastered with advertising. A significant percentage of the posts are from people who actually climb outdoors less than a few times a year. Makes it very difficult/time consuming to seperate the good stuff from the crap. Now I'm not saying that ukcaving would ever get that popular - there just aren't that many cavers - but why risk losing the friendly and effective feel of the forum.

Don't forget that more crap posts = increased disk storage cost for bubba = he might have to pass that cost on to us.

I think of access to this forum as a privilege. Tell your friends - if you think they'll contribute, benefit from it and respect it.

So let's keep it....well...errrr...underground.

right on.

As for Deep penetration and Outdoor instruction.
I dont think anyone would expect you to take your sites down, I just wanted to rise the point that *just* at the very point UKc has hit a critical mass - new forums being advertised on this site might jepadise the situation by diluting the readership.

It would appear only to have helped the situation - since I logged on this morning to find 75 new posts - fantastic - although - now - I havent the time to read them all and comment.

Live and let live..... as you say.

As for adverts in Descent - I think we did get a very small mention in Descent a couple of years ago - prehaps chris would like to logon to UKc and comment. :)
Prehaps this topic my provoke a mention in the next release.

Like i say, dont worry guys. I don't think that site such as mine or outdoor instruction.co.uk will ever 'dilute' your readership...
The internet is a big place and there is room for all of us..

Just had a reply from a mail I sent to Chris Howes.

General jist is that if I put a small press release/article together - he might put in the next issue.

How about:

"Check out ukcaving.com - the best, most happening, user-friendly, daily-updated, caver-focussed online forum in the UK and very possibly the world!".

Or perhaps you could push the boat out and exaggerate a bit and maybe stick in some superlatives....
