the reaction from some climber in the shop was what you might expect if you'd said 'God f*** the Queen' at a Buck House garden party.

Climbers are knobs also

And I suppose the majority of spurious and off-topic replies in this thread which was supposed to answer a simple query about a rope on an 8 foot pitch, makes cavers look good?

One of the good things about this forum is that you do get discussions that range far and wide.

So lighten up.

The thing is, Cautley Spout is (evidently) a good ice climb . . . when conditions are right, but conditions only come good once in a  blue moon ? it's not a  regular climbing ground. Furthermore, if the conditions were such as to make climbing there feasible, the chances are that the bolts would be buried under several inches of snow and ice anyway!

Well I guess that around Christmas 2010 was the last 'blue moon' then. Bolts were visible and gladly used to belay from.

Hey, less of that please. Although reading UKClimbing would certainly give you the impression that a substantial portion of them (us) are knobs I don't think you can generalise that much. However the standard of debate on this forum is certainly of a much higher calibre.

Erm, I herd on the grape vine many years ago, the long straight bit taken out of oxlow pilgrims passage, which was left in the field was accidently placed between level 1 and 2 of abber llyn zinc mine in wales, a bit of recycling in the caveing community?

I happen to have enough Iron ladder to re-ladder New Oxlow and maybe P8 2nd pitch...........

Dear Master Hibberts,

Would these be the very same ladders which used to be part of the fire escape for my orangery in the old south wing by any chance?
You are an undoubted rogue of the first water, and as for that chap Toogood with which you hang around so frequently - you are both as bad as each other. No good will come of it just you mark my words; you shall rue the day.
My people will be in touch.

Yours etc. etc. etc.

Anyway who has got my carabiner? And who is up for helping to install a new Ladder in Oxlow and P8 ?

P8 ladder could certainly make it a better trip for newbies (and the sport still needs new blood). If it was well built, well fixed and bomb proof, what's the harm? (it could even be load tested regularly with water bags or something?). Very low risk involved in its use if people are lifelined down....discuss ...(maybe in a new thread?)
