The main problem with the advice at the top of this thread is that you have to be able to find it. The only way to find it is to use the search function and to do that you have to think that you might find the right advice by using the search function. If you happen to have made that choice then you also need to be lucky and choose the right search term. If you use 'posting photographs' you will find it but if you search for 'how to upload an image' then you won't. If you use 'uploading photos', 'posting images' or anything else like that then you won't find it. You are more likely to find a post somewhere down the thread but then you still wouldn't find it without clicking on the button to select page one and there is nothing to tell you to do that.
Try and put yourself in the mind of a new user - they would be very unlikely have the perseverence to find it.
If you did find it, it says you can use photobucket so you might go through the whole process of creating a photobucket account and uploading photos to photobucket before finding that you can't use it to post photos on here. But I'm sure most people would have given up long before that stage.
It seems to me that many people would expect to find advice in making posts by going to the 'help' heading on the home page and then choosing 'posting'. It takes you here: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Posting That's what I did and there is nothing at all about posting photos.
