Quaking pot

Well done for successfully bottoming a difficult pothole.

Out of interest, does anyone have any thoughts on the origin of the name "Quaking Pot". It's pretty unusual when you think about it.
Is it not on Quaking Moss? Don’t have a map handy. There a few “Quaking” things on OS Maps, boggy bits of moor usually. I could have imagined that about it being a more general name for that little patch of ingleborough tho.

I’ve answered my own question. No it isn’t. But I reckon something to do with a mossy bit is probably the origin, ie I doubt cavers named it. Who knows.

Whilst "Quaking in your boots" imagery comes to mind, I always assumed it was something to do with the Quakers....?

Shake or shudder with fear

How far would a slightly bigger than fat, out of practice and scared of tight spots caver get in Quaking Pot?

I'm never going to get to the end, but I quite fancy having a look.
You might get to the crux but you would probbably find top of second pitch, the bit of passage between 2nd and 3rd (thats most likely to stop you) and top of 4th paricularly tight.

We also found height to be a significant limiting factor for the crux bypass - I'm probably wider than both Todd and Buck, but was the only one in the group that fit through (I'm 5' exactly whereas the other two are 6'+)

Judging by the very long wait and the amount of complaining heard, it is a lot easier to go through the bypass than the crux if you can fit though 😂
I wonder how a 5"3 individual would fare....

There are some very small people around.
