Those criticising the rescuees should note Bill Whitehouse's comments in the article. And remember that hindsight has 20/20 vision.
I believe two of them have been grounded until after their wives have delivered. Fortunately that's not too long.Big Jim said:I think that if their wives / partners / concubines had anything about them they would immediately confiscate these reckless fools caving gear until they can prove they are mature and sensible enough to return to the caving scene. God forbid that these morons ever have children! :

I wasn't really suggesting anyone was criticising. I know both the people rescued and the rescuers as well as the piss-takers but, I'm sure you're aware that this is in the public domain and may be watched by people like the Daily Mail. Who knows what they will make of it. I was there when all this kicked off and it was really a non-event. They were safe where they were but, because it was continuing to rain, it was decided to bring them out rather than risk exposure by leaving them to wait for the water to go down.paul said:droid said:I put the link up for interest: first 'dive-out' rescue in Derbyshire for 20 years. I don't think anyone is criticising - it may look like that but as has already been pointed out above, it's just piss taking by others who know them.
Personally I think they were glad for the extra digging time until somone in diving gear arrived unannounced and insisted on taking them out of the cave...
I don't pity the poor people at all, divers are used to getting wet. Next time it might be them being rescued by the Gautries diggers. They're all on the same rescue team.Cave_Troll said:i pity the poor folks who had to go out and find them. [suspicious]Can't have been any fun in that water[/suspicious]

I was equipment officer for DCRO for many years and I don't ever recall any rescuers openly complaining about cavers who needed rescuing.

could cause a party in trouble underground to think twice before dialling 999

And no-ones answered my question as to the last dive-out rescue....was it Didos'?
No idea for the Peak, but there was that well documented dive-out in the Dales in 1992 from Sleets Gill.paul said:droid said:No, Paul. I can recognise genuine pisstaking (done enough of it myself on here)....I was just clearing the air a bit on my own account.

The Didos Cave rescue was in 1982 which is 31 years ago. I don't have a list of call outs before 1998 (as on the DCRO website) so there may have been another diving related incident 20 years ago in 1993 or thereabouts (after Didos and earlier than 1998) in the Peak District.
Anyone else know?
