Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

No. It isn't.
Assuming the shot in question was of people walking in Long Churn, no-one seems likely to watch it thinking it was Swildons being filmed, hurtle off to Mendip as a result, go down Swildons and come out in a huff.

As the piece of footage was cut into the sequence of the programme when they were supposed to be in Swildons, then anyone watching it was meant to think it was Swildons being filmed. You might believe that it is ok for a film maker to do that, but I think that that is downright dishonest. And if someone did go to Swildons looking for that same bit of passage then they could be forgiven for being pissed off when they failed to find it.

What if I posted some pictures on this forum of the latest spectacular formations we had found in a cave in the Forest of Dean, but they were actually photos taken in Upper Flood; and you came down the forest to see them. Would you see the funny side of it?

I agree.
The scene in Swildons was GLARINGLY OBVIOUSLY not swildons
Bahh I feel cheated let alone newcomers ;)

Hi - re: BBC2 repeat of Ultimate Caving on Sunday - it's not repeated in Wales (rubgy instead) - if anyone is able to record and make a copy I'd be very grateful.........many thanks  :)

Alternatively, if you're quick, you can join the BBC iPlayer Beta program.  Once they've sent you a password, you can download the iPlayer and the Ultimate Caving program.  Then you can watch it as many times as you like over the next 7 days.  I've done this, it all worked fine and the quality is very good (not suprising as the program takes up 640M of disk space  ).

Look, you lot, this is nonsense. I didn't know they had cut a bit of one cave into the other until some clever-dick here told us. It didn't change the message of the programme in the slightest. The story was about Kate's experiences and capabilities, and what cave she was doing it in is completely irrelevant. You might as well ask how many angels you can fit on the head of a pin for all the relevance it has to the real message of the programme.

I'll take the 'clever-dick' bit as a compliment.  Actually, despite my issues with the programme, I never intended to make any big deal out of that particular detail but I was just curious to see if anybody had noticed as it's quite a neat little observation test for UK cavers.  If you watch it again see if you can spot it - if you are observant you will notice the cream coloured Dales limestone and peat stained water.  It's only a few seconds and consists purely of a cut-away shot to some rushing water.

Wasn't this clip first used in the 'Planet Earth' Caves program.

Exactly.

After all the cave featured in the video "Cave Safe I" is an imaginary one made up several real locations. It doesn't detract from the point of the production: to teach caving technique and it is an excellent video nevertheless.

The Ultimate Caving program was to showcase caving to the general public - which I believe it did magnificently - not to be a visual guide book to 3 particular caves in the UK.

Yes; or something exceptionally similar. Noticed it first time and pointed it out immediately. Does that make me a clever dick too? (rhetorical question BTW).

Stand for hats has finally gotten around to watching this excellent "go caving" advert

Ok so I'm already a caver and i now want to go to Wales and crawl for ages...  :-\

But my missus watched it with me and thought it was really good. Now HEAR'S the thing. She hasn't been caving before. But apart from Sump 1 and the silly long crawl she thought it was great and now wants to try caving.

ISN'T THAT THE POINT?????? (especially since I'm in the doghouse big stylieeeee so she ain't saying that cause she's a caver's missus!!!)

so there were bits that were edited incorrectly.

SO FUCKING WHAT

this is TV.

live with it.

The fact that it was all positive is a huge leap forward. stop picking holes. TV is meant to be entertaining - that this manages to convince people to join us can only be good

Party on

Hat

(another fuzzy navel please!!!  ;))

Hunters was good - except for the creaking knot of doom - but then Les didn't like that very much either!!!

Hmmmm think I was a little blunt the other night....  :coffee:

Anyone know what music was playing when they were ascending up the Titan? It'd be good for a movie.

I watched it and recorded it and I must say it was very good, the very personal point of view worked well.

My missus got a general email at the hospital where she works - to paraphrase.....

"My hubby (like most of yours) saw that 'Ultimate Caving' thing on the telly and now wants to have a go - does anyone know how he might go about finding somewhere/one that can take him??"

To which, of course, I sent him in the direction of one of the local instructors - whom I know does "Try Caving" courses.

I watched it the second time round, now we've heard all the negative comments. Very few of them were justified, IMHO. Tim got in shot more than I remember from the first time round. Pam was out of shot more than I remembered. I think that despite the 'never doing this again' comments, Kate quite enjoyed the experience and was glad to have done it.

I sat and watched the repeat on my own this time. I was suprised how much I had missed the first time through
(Why do people insist on talking over the TV?  :-\ )

I must say that I enjoyed the film much more this time. :)

And I enjoyed it the first time!

Peter, my mother has booked Kate to speak at her Arts and Lit society very shortly so is going to ask her what she thought about it all.  Lets see if you are right.

I think she did real well !
