Rope offer for summer expos

Hey all. It's been a few years since we last supported summer expos as the global pandemic seems to have got in the way. This deal is really aimed at the summer expeditions with lots of student and youth participants. The amount of rope offered will depend on how many successfully apply but should be 200m as a minimum. The rules are similar to previous years. See here for the 2019 comp;

..and some of the winners;

So how do you get hold of this rope? Well... the more coverage your expedition gets the better it is for all your sponsors... and cavers like to hear your expedition stories..... so you're going to have to blog about your expedition on ukcaving. What does that mean? To apply you will have to post on the 'expeditions' board of the forum giving some history, details, hopes and objectives of your trip. Those who have applied before are very welcome to apply again. If you kept us all well informed before then you are likely to be successful again.

We'll make our decision in just over a week so you'll have to get your skates on. Closing date is 10pm Sunday 25th June. As part of the deal you give a commitment to blog about the trip on the same thread. This must include as a minimum; a post before departure, two posts from the field and a good report upon your return. Make it positive and fun and that will help with recruitment and sponsors next year.

The rope will be [approx] 9.5mm SRT purchased through Spanset UK. This is a UKcaving sponsored initiative but we are very grateful to Spanset for offering a generous discount and supporting many other caving projects.

We (the Dachstein expedition) would like to apply for this :)

Our current UKC thread for the 2023 expedition is here: https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?threads/dachstein-2023.30226/
We also posted a thread and reports for our 2022 exped here: https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?threads/dachstein-expedition-2022.29611/
and then the previous exped (courtesy of Covid) was 2019: https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?threads/dachstein-expedition-2019.24809/

UKCaving have helped us before and we are always grateful for their support :)

We are always trying to get more new and young cavers caving; we have been award two Alex Pitcher awards from Ghar Parau along with our main GPF grant (again, many thanks to GPF for their continued support) which give £100 to two under-25 cavers who have not previously been on foreign expeditions. We (the expedition) are also giving £50 to two other cavers who were eligible for Alex Pitcher awards but we couldn't put forwards as we can only apply for two per expedition (and as I read it we cannot spread the Alex Pitcher awards around). Finally, we are giving a £50 discount to all under-25 cavers.

So far it seems to be helping as (out of the signed-up cavers so far) we have 40% under-25 cavers, although more are welcome.

I will try and get the current thread updated with a list of current objectives etc. now we are a little closer to the exped itself.

Thanks once again UK Caving for running this! I'd love to introduce this year's CUCC 2023 Expo Blog
200 Meters of rope can go quite far in some of our new caves!!

We are hugely grateful for your support over the years, please stay tune for Regular Updates, Images, Memes, and of course Science and hopefully new Discoveries...

Firstly, many thanks to all for writing up your entries so well. We are really impressed with the quality of exploration heading out to Europe this summer, and it is great to see expos getting back to normal after the restrictions of the pandemic.

We have a kilometre of rope to give away and have decided that will be in three awards of 200m and one of 400m.

The awards are...

Dachstein Austria - 200m
Tresviso Spain - 200m
Imperial Slovenia - 200m
and...
CUCC Austria - 400m

At present the rope is still with the suppliers but we expect to have it in the Dales (Ingleton area) in the next week or so ready for collection. PM me to arrange.

Finally, best of luck on the summer expos, find heaps and have a great time. We're looking forward to hearing all about the trips. Cheers
