For those who don't visit the home page....

THERE'S 300M ROPE TO WIN!!  (Yes that's 300 METERS!) of Spanset Gold

There's a great big pile of it in my kitchen, it's almost brand new as only used on a recent trip to Torca Del Carlista.  It's washed and just needs a new home...

Doesn't your club need some new rope?? You could win it for them!!

Going on Expedition?? need some rope??

Simply tell us a 'training tale' - caving knowledge is passed from caver to caver - what have you learnt, or taught??

There's a lot of knowledge within the caving community, how's it passed on??

Thanks for entering and good luck  (y)

..an interesting conversation on twitter (click the bird!) recently...

'Not the easiest competition to enter though! I've been wracking my brains for training tales and have come up blank!'

My reply: 'anything, any caver has ever taught you, ever. Or you've learnt by watching other cavers - easy!  :)

Is this competition highlighting a lack of training with the UK caving community?? Surely not

I think folk might be more concerned with making their training humorous and/or memorable, I know I'm certainly struggling with it! I started a draft yesterday, read through it, and thought "that's it?!?"

Could write essays and love training, absolutely love learning stuff and trying out new ideas/methods/kit etc.. 300 metres of rope could come in very handy for creating a circuit of joy. There is a training video.....

It definitely won't be highlighting a lack of opportunity to do training - the BCA will even pay towards it for you.

From many previous threads, though, it's easy to recall countless forthright responses unequivocally stating that clubs routinely provide training, delivered by experienced members, specifically so instructors and professional outfits don't need to offer their services. Presuming this to be true there must be very large scope for numerous entries.

Feel free to enter Chris - the comp is open to ALL forum members, inc those making a living through caving.  Both Badlad and I owe our careers to caving in a way - he's worked in the roped access industry for many (many) years and I was given my first job as a Rep for Mountain Equipment partly because I had an interest in the 'Outdoors'.

Filter - Pete Ward will be judging, so maybe just hunt him down and buy him a pint!!  ;)
