    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Am I alone, or is this all getting a bit boring?

Probably not alone but certainly in a tiny minority. Perhaps you need to look at your own postings!  :ras:

100% agree. Time to press the reset button guys. Return everything to its rightful owners ... then wait a respectable period and we can start again  ;)

All the BEC hostages were released unharmed on New Year's Eve. The Wessex even received four new bolts to replace the ones we destroyed. It was a good deal considering they only started off with two and a half. We resisted the temptation to stick it back on upside down :) The BEC is getting cuddly in its old age.

It's been over 3 months. It would be good to have Bertie back or at least some clues to give us a chance of stealing him back. There's been a history of clubs nicking stuff from each other on Mendip but trophies have generally stayed on the hill and clubs have been given a chance of reclaiming their stuff. The current kidnapping isn't really playing by the rules and people are starting to have a sense of humour failure.

The thing about a running gag is knowing when it's reached it's sell-by date.

This one is getting rather mouldy now.

can someone explain to me why stealing the signs from other caving clubs, as shown in the photo, will help with getting your bat back?

Couldn't agree more.  So come on Ed and Burt give the bat back to its rightful home.

If by Ed you mean me - you are seriously mistaken!  I am aware that my name has been connected with the theft of Bertie, but I can assure you that  I have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with his disappearance.  Firstly I am flattered that someone thinks I have the ability to pull this stunt off.  Sorry to disappoint but I must admit that I have not got the brains or skills to have done it with the aplomb that the real perpetrators have shown.

Secondly  I spent the weekend that Bertie disappeared up to my armpits in the emergency docking of a ship down in Falmouth, a good several hour's drive away from the Belfry.  For the record the ship was the Lithuanian Mine Hunter M53 Skalvis, and I was staying at the Falmouth Hotel.  I could not agree more with the sentiments of those who have stated that the prank has now worn very thin, particularly for those of us who are having our names dragged throughthe mud over this without a shred of evidence.  So come on, whoever has Bertie, please return him and end this saga while it can still be done comically.

All the best,

Ed

The first ransom video was very funny. A few replies after that were quite funny but this is now quite boring.
There were a lot of very pissed off cavers in the Hunters on New Years Eve and a few people are getting a load of stick that is boardering on abuse when they do not deserve it. So please give Bertie back and let's get on with some caving.......................until the next time he is captured.

I think my previous post suggested that I was more than a little bored and pi$$ed off at the accusations of me having something to do with Bertie's disappearance.  After giving the details of my "alibi" in that post, I now discover that someone registered on this forum has been checking up on me by contacting one of my work colleagues.  Though I am not happy about this turn of events, the person in question has at least received proof that my story is true.  So, you know who you are, please at least post that you have confirmation that I was doing what I have said I was doing that night!

it would have only taken a couple of people with a suitable vehicle or trailer to have removed Bertie on the BEC dinner night, but from the looks of the videos, there are at least 3 people also involved in the video stuff - these may or may not be the same people, but clearly can have been filmed anywhere or at any time and not necessarily in the same location as Bertie is/was kept, so while people might state an alibi for the night of the BEC dinner, it may not exclude them from being involved in the whole theft of bertie and videos, etc. (i am not pointing the fingers at anyone, just stating a fact)

Overall i just think it is sad that over 3 months on, the BEC are still minus Bertie and pretty much everyone (not just BEC members) seems to agree this is a joke that has dragged on too long and it is time he was either brought home or we are told where to collect him from.

Ever thought of becoming  a politician Estelle?  You may not specifically point the finger, but that has already publically been done on this forum by others, and your post does at least suggest that I have had something to do with this.  I can only repeat that I have had absolutely nothing to do with Bertie's disappearance, the ransom films, hiding him, cleaning up his guano or anything whatsoever.  I have no idea of who holds him or where.

However I have been dragged into this by groundless accusations which I find pretty upsetting as it happens.  I wonder if any of those who have pointed the finger (on this forum or otherwise) will have the B***ls to apologise to those accused (including myslef) as and when Bertie is hopefully returned to his perch.

All the best,

Ed

Haven't you noticed that every time someone posts in this thread the forum index page tells you who stole Bertie. Before I posted this it said "STOLEN - Bertie Bat by Ed W". However, now it says "STOLEN - Bertie Bat, by Peter Burgess"  ;) even though I changed the title!

When the first post went up the index page accused Stupot.

Oh, and I am totally with Ed - this is all very tedious.  :(

Hello bec.

As certain members of your club have taken it upon themselves to continuously falsely accuse and upset several innocent parties over the kidnapping of bertie bat we, the CBLCC, have decided to return him to you.

We kidnapped him in the name of good fun and had no wish for this to impact negatively on parties who are in no way involved. By doing this, certain members of the bec have made themselves look rather unpleasant and foolish.

We have appreciated the reciprocal videos and correspondence on UKcaving by those of you with a sense of humour. And if we study certain members postings and correspondences via our spy network we can see that you have admitted to at least one of our demands if not actually directly to us - can you guess which one?

We will contact you in due course to make arrangement for berties safe release. In the meantime we trust that you will cease to make accusations of kidnapping without proof. After all, you have totally failed to identify the true perpetrators of the deed to date.
