    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

But surely a man of your knowledge and experience of all things military would give you the advantage and enable you to not only contrive a plan, but complete the mission and return to collect your reward with out anyone even noticing you were missing, perhaps leaving a decoy with a sticker on his head.  (y)

Smart as what ? not as smart as the afore mentioned smart ?

Looking at the Vid the structure behind Bertie looks like a poly tunnel kind of structure, or temporary tent ? it is wafting in the breeze.

and as for having a clone noooooooooooooooooooooooooo one is enough.

This is not your usual kipnap as normally someone would own up.

We assume it is the Wessexs (no denial), could be the other clubs or a disgruntaled splinter group e.g the real wessex (or is that the BEC, always get confused wth caving politics) etc etc.

Think a demand should be sent to prove that he is still in one piece , e,g, photo with a dated newspaper, well thats what they do in the films isn't it.

J4nny, you may have a point; funny accent, short and, ahem, rotund, owns a van and a distinct love of all things flying, you've just described our very own Slug!! Mr. Gregory please can you account for your whereabouts for the entire night of the dinner.

The Wessex are blameless  :ang:  - I am sure they would have owned up when I asked them. My wife thinks this is an insult to J-rats memory . Many of us will recollect Bertie on his Landrover at one of his wakes. So, if you have respect for Jrat return Bertie to his natural home - the Belfry .

I am reasonably sure that the Wessex generally are innocent. There is not even a whisper around the Hut concerning him, just admiration for the ransom video.

Whether a Wessex member or two are involved (on a more freelance basis) remains to be seen but it certainly wasn't a club effort.

My suspicions are of a club further west but I have no real evidence.

I guess time will tell.

Please may we anticipate at least a  Mendip stylee scale of celebration when the issue (of Berties return) becomes resolved ( if successful, of course, otherwise it would become a glorious wake to celebrate)  For example the Chilean Miners were receiving regular media attention training underground before they re-emerged above ground to cope with the onslaught of the worlds attention and the welcome party> the potential danger are copycat incidents if there are huge payouts/dividends made as agreements.

Is there owt (sorry anything)  the Northern divisions could to encourage reconciliation?  So that it may result in celebration ( so that we can join in, of course, we up North are worried too). For example, we could consider to honour your Mendip Cavers Fair and sheep racing day,  we will challenge you to bar skittles, and shrove hap'penny and a night time tournament of Quoits at the Hunters. On a stronger level we may consider continuing the  reciprocal rights with the Mendips Cavers,  The currently exchange of  caving knowledge and goods may continue unless the north considered there should be a clampdown. ( this is not a necessarily a statement of threat -  just a healthy open discussion)...

Its Monday night, thats my excuse

1/  I was in the Webbington, getting pissed, along with 200+witnesses, Incl Kangy, Mike Wheadon, Pigwank, Batspiss, Biffo, Stu L, etc... and in the Panto, as a stage hand, which was filmed by at least 1 person. Just because Alex was too blotto to see me doesn't mean I wasn't there. There are plenty of pictures as well.

2/ My van aint big enough to fit the Bat into it, it needs to be transit sized.

3/ The main person pointing the finger at ME, was also there, as a guest from another club.... laying a false trail Jenny ???.

4/ Bob, you weren't at the dinner either, can YOU account for YOUR whereabouts that night ??.

Shite  A good point well put. I don't believe I can account for my whereabouts, so it could have been me. or maybe I sent in my minions to steal Bertie to forcibly mate with a couple of shaved chimps I located in the SMCC (sheep bothering at the time they were, different story tho').

Here's an artists impression of the current results.

My wife thinks it's hilarious and is sure that JRat would have really enjoyed it.  A tribute to his memory I say!  Does anyone else have to express the opinion of their wives!!!!!

Some people need to get a sense of humour!

I just fear for Bertie's welfare now that the weather is turning more wintery.
Will his captors realise that bats need to hibernate and if they haven't been feeding him properly with copious quantities of Chilli & Potholer he won't have built up the necessary nutritional & fat reserves to see him through the winter.
The longer this situation goes on the less chance there is of a happy out come.
I call on all concerned to re-open meaningful negotiations with reasonable demands to secure the safe return of Bertie to his rightful home.
Otherwise it may be necessary to open up comunications with 'the other side' & get J Rat to come & haunt the perpetrators!

Again, a fair point. Once caught will those responsible be publicy tried for handling bats without a licence?
Perhaps they have one, perhaps Bertie has simply been taken into safe custody.  :-\
