Heads up: I’ve written a lengthy article for the Sunday Times magazine telling the story of the exploration of Pozo Azul, culminating in this year’s push led by Jason Mallinson. It will be published on the Sunday after next, 3 December. It’s beautifully illustrated and spreads across nine pages. Order your copy now!

Is the story going to be put into circulation for cavers who don't get the Sunday times?

Badger, this article was written, illustrated and edited with a lot of care and attention to detail. I don't think it contains a single error. I'm pleased to see from Facebook that people close to Jason and the rest of the team are pleased with the results, and it will benefit future expeditions. But high quality journalism costs money. When I saw your post I considered whether I ought to put a PDF of the article on this site. But I haven't. Before many newspapers started putting content online for nothing, nobody would have argued that you should get articles for free. The economics of the newspaper business are now a disaster. Many publications have folded, or teeter on the brink. It gets harder to make a living from written journalism every year. The article is online, and you can get a free month trial subscription from the Times website. So you could try that?

That's great but my nearest news agent is now over 6 miles from where I live, and not sure what newspapers they even have being a co op.
So to make a one of journey does not make any sense.
I have no doubt about the quality of the article, and I am not questioning that.
I suppose I will have to in the majority of cavers who will not see this. Which makes me feel sad,
Hopefully Jason might do a lecture on it at HE next year. Jason lecture at HE Tewkesbury on pol Azul was my very first hidden Earth lecture, at that time he still had not passed sump 2.

It's on The Times Online, which is included in the subscription, and I'm 99% confident that the free trial sub includes everything in the paid sub.

Great article, Dave, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Very fine writing, as always - gripping narrative, even though you know the outcome.

I will put a copy of the magazine in the Helwith Bridge pub library today. The next article about Humphrey Smith, the eccentric owner of Sam Smith's, is well worth a read.
