Tackle for Devonshire Cavern

Hi could anyone tell me what tackle is needed for ere? Be much appreciated.

If the door is fixed, an adjusting spanner, if the ladder is gone care and caution on the deads, and general commonsense for old mines for the rest!

A 25ft travelling line is sometimes useful for the less capable on the upper series scrambles.

Hell's Well and the pitch opposite are bolted for SRT. From memory a 20m rope and 3 or 4 maillons should be more than adequate for either.

Yes but you don't actually need to rig those pitches even if they are handy for SRT practice.

Check out the recently published "Peak District Access & Rigging Guide" - it has topos and rope lengths required for the two pitches in Devonshire if you want to rig them for SRT.

Please don't upset the local residents by parking in the narrow road or in the turning circle - use one of the car parks lower down the hill and walk up.

Be aware that the Devonshire gate currently does not close and bolt shut properly because the frame is warped - do your best to make sure it is secure.  It's due some attention from DCA as soon as our Projects Officer has time, which probably won't be until after he's done some more urgent jobs.  If you'd like to help, get in touch with Dan via the DCA website at www.theDCA.org.uk.

Go in via the upper entrance if you know the padlock code, enter down the slope, turn first right up some old steps and it is on the right wall. If you drop the shaft you can exit from the bottom.
Or, go in the lower entrance (was secure as of 8.30 pm last night ), follow the main, obvious passage uphill, past a large isolated boulder at the base of a shaft high in the roof, follow the steps up the left wall to a platform (where the upper entrance comes in), follow the next set of steps and go right to find the tall slot leading to the pitch. You can see the hangers from the main path.
