If you add up all the kilometres of passage, would Wales have more than Yorkshire. How would the other areas compare as well?

Which area would have the greatest number of entrances? Quite apart from all the little caves with one entrance apiece, we like caves where you can go in one hole and come out another. Even a tiddler like Borrins Moor has 5 entrances (1) and  GG and Goyden must have nigh on 20 between them.

(1) I'm not going to get into any arguments about whether it's an entrance or an exit.

Certainly not Wales! Draenen has only one, Daren now two, OFD 3. Once you are at the end of these its a long way back!

I'm not a Mendip caver but I remember being absolutely gobsmacked and inspired when I went down Reservoir Hole a few years ago.  Not sure if it counts as "deepest" dig but it must have been a heck of a job for Willie Stanton and friends.  Respect.

To an extent any discussion about which area has the biggest / deepest / best etc is fairly futile.  Britain's caves are absolutely fantastic; I haven't been caving abroad for 9 years because there's just too much to do here without all the hassle and cost of travelling to exotic places.  We really should celebrate British caves a whole lot more.

Give me half a dozen lifetimes to visit every cave in the UK and I'll give you a definitive answer.
Fact is I've never been anywhere I didn't enjoy - longest/deepest/hardest; couldn't care less, it's all fun.

Daren has 4 if you include Elm Hole and Pwll Y Cwm (sp)  ;)

Oh yes of course! :-[

I agree with Pitlamp. It is nice to have the diversity and we really objectively cannot compare areas!
