Thunderflies in my monitor

Somehow a thunderfly has managed to get inside the screen of my flat screen monitor, any ideas how much damage I'm likely to do dismantling it to try and get the thing out?

Should've known better..... ::)  It is annoying though, I'm guessing the screen surface is just a covering to another screen below? If anyone knows I'd be grateful before I leap in with my screwdriver and do untold damage.

You could try blowing it out with compressed air (like from a can or foot pump). If you dismantle the screen the on-board power supply can hold a decent enough electric charge, even after its been switched off for a while, to give you a nasty jolt (from personal experience)! Don't bend the screen at all if you try to prise panels off it as if it cracks its stuffed, plus they usually contain mercury & other nasty chemicals. Screws are often hidden behind stickers, and cable assemblies can be fragile. Good luck!

Cheers Walrus, perhaps I'll put up with it as it is, it sounds as if there is plenty of opportunity for a ham fisted fool such as myself to come unstuck.  :doubt:

Is this a pisstake, or has an insect got inside your monitor in front of the display? I'd be on the phone to the manufacturer!

Not covered - Act of God (I used to work for PCSC (now known as 'The Tech Guys'  :yucky:) and I'd have told  the customer (politely, within the company guidelines) where to shove it. (BTW, I HATED them at the end - partly why I left)

Find out what Thunderflies eat and try to tempt him out with a thimble-full of his favourite snack?

Not a pisstake, a few nights back the thunderflies were very plentiful. One has definitely found it's way inside the screen, i.e it's under the surface. The monitor is a couple of years old so I doubt I'd have any luck complaining to anyone.

I'm not sure how a CE mark would relate to this, the only standard I am aware of would be the IP rating for dust and water ingress. It's certainly not IP65 rated!!

Asking round at work someone else has also experienced this. What I was really asking is if the surface of the screen is some easily seperated protective surface over the real screen that one can easily remove and clean?

I did not mean to take the mick ttxela. A friend of mine found a bug in the viewfinder of his Olympus camera which was supposedly watertight!
As someone previously said, the screens are full of nasty crap and just bending them very slightly can crack them. I know from experience and my IT manager was not happy. I think your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer and see what they say and if they refuse to do anything you will have to bite the bullet and get a nice local engineer to rid you of the bug. Should not cost too much. Does it bother you that much?

This may not work as he has not moved for some time, I fear the worst.

I guess it's not too much of a problem at the moment, it depends if his mates venture in as well.
