Having done a few trips in the Peak area and looking to do a few more I was wondering what is worth doing....

And yes I'm blatantly pinching the topic idea from the Yorkshire section, I've had a quick search and not noticed anything similar in the Peak section (if there is something then my apologies for my slackness as I'm tired!)

Can't make my mind up if Peak to JH in damp weather or Titan to JH is best trip I've done... What are everyone elses top  peak trips?

errm - they do exist - honest.
Really sorry about that, Are you around for Hidden earth. I can buy you more beer as compensation. Best time to visit bagshawe is in winter when all the digs are flooded - but all the pretty bits are still accessible and I wont be embroiled in scaffolding. You have every right to  :chair:

Best trip in the peak is probably Titan through to Peak. Or JH through to peak. or Giants Fig 8. (crabwalk - st valenitines, east canal geology eating house wind pipe and out. Or nettle. Or Oxlow Maskill exchange, or of course

BAGSHAWE TO THE BITTER END

Probably sound a bit biased  :-[ but Waterways Swallet...

Now 126m deep...with nice big passage/chamber at the bottom.

Maybe we should have a forum trip down there...?

If you go in the top entrance there is a ladder pitch just inside. You can traverse over this and down a handline instead, but its not easy. Worth taking a ladder with you incase you need it though you probably wont. Its a good through trip, and also worth going upstream abit as there are a couple of nice avens, and Lue Blue Sump is pretty cool

PM if you want any more info

Just be a bit careful in streaks with all this water around. Not been down stoney dale for a while - so not sure what the water levels are like. But of all the caves in the dale - I'd say streaks was the most flood prone.

Actully - can any else qualify that - is it likely to flood at this time of year ??

I know its quite a bit higher up...but the Streamway in Carlswark (Big Dig Series) was almost completely dry a fortnight ago - no stream, just isolated puddles.

Have done streaks in flood. Not pleasant. Twas in winter after snow melt so I doubt it would be too bad at present unless there was a thunderstorm. Has the oil drum entrance been stabalised? I remeber doin g the through trip and having to dig our way out with the droms sliding down and blocking the way all the time  Would agree that the entrance shaft from the top can be free climbed by competent climbers (done it both up and down several times) but ladder would be better. My memories are of hanging death held up by rotting timbers and low flatout crawls in icy water. It is a sporting trip but not IMHO a top trip in Derbyshire. P8 yes, Giants Yes, Peak No doubt yes but not done it. Unfortunately its 15 years since I last caved in Derbyshire. Was once my happy hunting ground when at Uni in Keele.

So let me get this straight...

Its not that bad - but it is flat out for a bit in the stream. (cant remember much mud) - but there is one little squeeze past a bit of rock thats held up by a bit of 3by2. just at the bottom of the chamber with the ladder pitch in it.

Last time I was in - the oil drum entrance was OK.

Its a sporting through trip. Yes the top entrance looks a bit dodgy in places but its all fine.
There is a great little round trip at the end. When you get to something that looks like a sump with a passage to the right. Go through as its only a duck and you can loop back round to the right to the entrance.

Its a must in stoney!

"crawling.....and mud.....and tight squeezes....and....errrr......being lost..... " - Doesn't that remind you of your trip down Otter Hole on Saturday? :)
