Wandered along what I think is the fisherman’s path from Beddgelert along to the end of Pass of Aberglasyn. As you get to the end near Nantmor is a fairly sizeable horizontal mine entrance. Donned head torch and marched in... then realised I had trainers on and made a retreat. Does anyone know it?

It could just be the tunnel for the old railway line

I went through that "tunnel for the old railway line" a couple of months ago.......on a train, the line has been reopened. It is the Welsh Highland Railway and popular with tourists. (Half a century ago I used to walk to work from Beddgelert to the Cwm Bychan mines through that tunnel.)

There are some other adits, including one near the river. They were copper mines, or at least trials. I don't know what is accessible now. The rocks are shot through with pyrite, there used to be one nice exposure of a pyrite vein beside the railway line near the short tunnels.

On the Fisherman's Path, coming from Beddgelert, and before getting onto Fisherman's Path proper, there's a lot of red staining near the river, and there's a short adit above the railway. This is on the same lode as Level Goch on the other side of the river, just behind the wall where the land rises sharply. Lefel Goch has been blocked for the best parts of 2 centuries, but still discharges loads of red water.

Behind the house at Aberglaslyn Birdge, Aberglaslyn copper mine has a large stop on several levels going up the hillside. A little bit up the road upstream is a small hole. The stopes are still open.

The adit you saw I presume is the one near the wooden boardwalk. That's a trial and goes in a hundred metres or so, if memory... Possibly on the same lode a Aberglaslyn, but I suspect a little bit too far upstream to be so.

The next valley along - Cwm Bychan is well worth a look on the mine front. Also has remains of aerial ropeway. You can continue and come down via Sygum copper mine, or continute up the valley past Llwyndy copper mine and come down near LLyn Dinas. Loads of ravens, dragonflies, shrews and lizards up there in summer.

Thank you. That was definitely the one - appreciate the info. Can’t believe I had trainers on 🙄
