WARNING - Gale Garth unstable

On a trip to Gale Garth today the crawly passage beyond the handline collapsed on me from the left hand side. There was enough space for me to exit and the people beyond to come back through however the pile seemed very unstable. We thought the culprit was probably the water coming in through the left wall through the rocks (it was very wet for the cave today). On the way out of the cave we heard several deep rumbles from behind so it may have collapsed further.

It will be reported to the CNCC but I wouldn’t recommend anyone planned a trip there until they or Red Rose members have taken a look.

Did you have to unearth the entrance? Last time I saw it it looked like nobody had been there for years. Bit of an esoteric one, it must be at least 20 y since I last went looking at the dig at the end.

The road sign was grown over but not difficult to get open. I’m pretty sure it gets occasional traffic but you’re right - on the esoteric side. Believe it or not we wanted a nice easy trip

Have you tried the Tip Top, Top Tip etc in the field above the farm. Even shorter walk! Again some time since I was last there but one at least is a wee srt trip. Aygill is always pleasant ( except when wet!!!!!)
