I live up above the Via Gellia & managed to get down to that & along the A6 to Matlock to work this morning - main roads were a bit wet/slushy but OK, wouldn't have attempted the minor roads if I didn't have 4WD though (~ 6" of snow when I left this morning). I believe the A6 is currently closed at Buxton as is the A515 at Ashbourne. It's still snowing in Matlock, which means higher up the hill it's probably still settling. It's destined to improve by tonight - apparently!

Fox house just about open now - depending on your luck re meeting on coming traffic or useless gits in front of you.  Been to hathersage and back but Surprise view is quite frankly carnage.

Temp has just poped above freezing in Tidza so the roads are a bit more passable, so long as no-one else is coming the other way, as SamT says.

Not many cars about though, seems everyone has given up on the day and settled for sledging...  (y)

Nothing settling in Sheffield really, which suggests it's barely cold enough - the forecast is for much warmer weather tomorrow, so all this could melt in one go. I'm real glad I went in Speedwell yesterday now...;)

If the mucky ducks are sumped you'll know that there's trouble a long time before you get there!

You'd have been lucky to get over Fox House and into the Hope valley this morning, I heard in Stoney chippy this evening that there were abandoned cars everywhere and don't get me started on the old fool who blocked the Monyash road by coming up with a caravan towed by a laguna, or the impatient dickhead with low profile tyres on his range rover.....

The snow is melting very fast so there may well be blocked sumps this weekend!

Hi folks,

I find this web-site really useful since it is updated by local travellers posting in reports.

http://www.buxtonweather.co.uk/

Having attempted to drive from Bonsall to Buxton at 08:00 am this morning and turned back at Newhaven on the A515 junction in what where white out conditions in a 4x4. It was not a surprise to me to find out that A) Buxton was cut-off, and B) The A 515 at Parsley Hay is only just being cleared of the back log of stranded lorries and cars at 20:00 hours this evening.

Latest snippet from the above web-site :

BUXTON-WE HAVE ABOUT 200 mm (8") OF SNOW HERE !! - Things are starting to clear  a little now after the total chaos through Wednesday, but local roads around the town are still very difficult and MAIN ROADS, especially higher level routes are still snow affected, but most are actually re-opening - including the A6 South and A54 Congleton, both now re-opened-  Latest reports:  " The gritters and snow plough convoy have been through and combined with clearer skies and easing of wind strength the stuck vehicles are moving again- Thank you Christine Orchard on the A515 Ashbourne Road @ 18.15

From the Kinder MRT website:

Call-out 4th April 2012
? Type ? Civil Emergency situation, assisting motorists stranded by snow fall
? Location ? Buxton, A515
? Team members ?11 KMRT, also BMRT and EMRT
? Duration 5 hrs or 55 man hours
We were asked to assist in the location and evacuation of motorists trapped on the A515 out of Buxton following severe snow fall and strong winds that produced blizzard like conditions. Motorists had been stuck since early that morning in the drifting snow as members of several MRT?s worked alongside the Police and Local Authority to reach them.

Can anyone give an update on the roads / snow situation?  Am hoping to get to Millers Dale tomorrow and it won't be in a 4x4!

Cheers

No problem getting to your base, just remember there's going to be a lot of COLD meltwater going underground.
