    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

What caving related thing did you do today?

Gavel - left hand option for the 1st pitch (short drop side), one in situ deviation. Much easier than the ladder pitch in the open pot.

2nd pitch with optional re-belay. Cncc rigging shows without.

3rd pitch is a hand line climb and then a lovely low streamway and you can go to Glasfurds with no more tackle

Pitches beyond are bigger
Yep, I used Gavel before down to Glasfurds but the feedback was that it was a bit too taxing for them as novices (plus the deviation is a bit annoying). Did try Yordas, its fine for purely SRT training but there isn’t much else to do there if you’re not going down chapterhouse. Might try bull pot or heron pot next time like has been suggested.

Yesterday I crawled into the mud sump in Longcliffe Mine to see if I could find the drain hole, which I could. Crawling back out took considerably longer. Saturday was spent with a few of us opening up two leads from one chamber in a cave/mine site. That was satisfying, but much, much more work to do yet.

Went to have a look at the gigantic shakehole near the Mossdale entrance, as we didn't really fancy going underground anywhere (and had left it too late). I was quite impressed by the size of it - and seems to be around 15-20m deep.

I'm not familiar with Quarry Pot. Is it the one immediately adjacent in the same field? We walked past it but didn't go down it. Is it of interest?
That's the one. If my memory's not wrong, you can at least get underground in that one, but sounds like it's all a big choke.

Very interesting, we didn't have the kit to go underground but will go and have a look another time.

Mended my oversuit, wire brushed & greased some scaff clips, made a Derbyshire tube, rinsed out & dried my grit filled wellies, etc. All the usual daily routine stuff; nothing especially interesting.

I along with many others advertised my caving club to lots of prospective students, with some reasonable success and a lot of replies of, I could never do that.

Wondered when the hell I'm going to get a chance to go caving again. That and sewed up some new tethers on my SRT gear to replace the worn stuff.

Went digging (fourth time in the last seven days) and on the other days in the last week I was caving at work. Does this actually count as caving-related, though? I imagine because it's actually caving, it's not caving-related. More caving tomorrow and Sunday, and Monday etc., you get the gist.

Digging last night. Smashed loose rocks off a quarry face above a mine entrance today. Having a meeting and then bolting and more rock-scaling tomorrow. Digging Sunday. That should do me for now ;)
