Met a very nice woman called Sue today who agreed to put one of our posters up at the Nature Trail in Clapham + also Ingleborough Show Cave, marvellous
...also met two cavers who helped me today - it's amazing who you pop in to when delivering posters....

Do people actually use QR codes instead of typing in web addresses?
I don't have a QR scanner app, and never jumped over the hurdle of downloading one when typing is perfectly acceptable.
Plenty of uses in various industries for traceability and the like though...
I'd be interested to know if anyone engages with them!

I use QR codes a lot. Not just when I find them around, but I sometimes put them on worksheets I give to pupils so they can get some interactive or video content to go with the black-and-white photocopied page.
They're even being used for orienteering on permanent courses now - scant the code on the checkpoint to record when you were there.

Last year I was in a cave in France (a caver cave, not a show cave) and there were lots of little laminated signs with QR codes propped up near interesting features. I couldn't check what happened if you scanned them, though, as for some reason I never thought to take my phone down a 120m pitch...

I've managed to get two up so far around Belfast. I'll attempt to get a few more about the place whenever I can.
These two posters are permanent fixtures on our club notice boards (see attached pictures)
One of our members, Roisin, was so happy about the new addition she wanted me to take a photo of her beside it!
QUBCC are well into their promotion of new to caving for you Pegasus!

CHECC 2018 - NUCC's Entry
We do have images, but I'm struggling to upload them at moment! Will try again later after lecture
When we saw this challenge we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to take advantage of the old Welsh name for Nottingham - Ty'r Ogofedd. Which, nicely, translates to 'House of Caves'.
The first place we tried putting up a 'New to Caving' poster was obviously the city's cave attraction, which to our surprise, didn't allow us to put one there. They did, however, tell us to try the National Justice Museum, who surprisingly took one off us to stick in their cafe! The receptionist also convinced this serious looking person in a silly hat to pose for a photo.
As we wandering, we happen to pass the Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery. We thought, what the hell, we may as well try and convince some people who aren't scientists or engineers to come caving! Sadly, they don't allow posters here, but said if we came back with flyers that would be ok..! :-\
Our next destination was the local bouldering centre. In typical climber fashion we were met with blank, emotionless faces that told us, in around about "What even is caving, please don't make our building muddy" sorta way, to please leave!
Not disheartened, we headed to the pub. Along the way we passed by Nottingham's most famous resident and gave him a message to send on his arrow.
The pub we went to was Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, oldest in England apparently, which is conveniently built into a few sandstone caves. Here, we were told we could leave a poster on the menu table, though apparently it's likely to get ruined by the Friday crowd. Hopefully, one of them will join a caving club before that happens.
As we were moving onto our next pub, we happen to walk past Nottingham City Collage. Ryan had the brilliant idea of seeing if we could put one in there. We asked security and they said we could put one up for now and they would check with reception in the morning if it can stay there. Fingers cross, the poster will reach out to young adults at the collage who wouldn't otherwise even known caving was a thing!
The final place we tried was on of the artsy pubs, The Malt Cross. We can try and get some cultured people to join our NUCC. The pub said it was fine so we placed the poster by the rest of the notices and flyers - you never know, we may convince someone who's interested in pottery or embroidery to come caving!

MUSC managed to pick up a few posters from TSG when we were there last. They sat around on my kitchen table for a while until I decided to put the cider down and do something productive! So off I went, into Manchester, hoping to find some nice places to put them up. I went to two seperate climbing centres, MCC and Rockover. The poster is the only thing on the Rockover noticeboard, looking very eyecatching, if a little lonely. The notice board there is next to some of the bouldering walls upstairs, and in MCC it is in the changing areas.
I also put one up in the UoM Students union building, and infiltrated MMU students union as well.
I gave some to Ellis Brigham, and Cotswolds Outdoors in the centre. The representatives said they would be put up in the staff rooms for now, so unfortunately no photos, but should hopefully be in the shop front after the black friday sales.
We also have the link on our facebook page and website.

DUSA have got a brand new tackle store in the Durham Students Union, (we got kicked out of our old cupboard because apparently it was blocking a very important water pipe :-\), which conviently faces out along the footpath infront of the dsu and is right next to the entrance. So we took advantage of this and stuck a New to Caving poster up in each the three windows in our tackle store, facing out so everyone who walks past or goes in and out of the Student Union will hopefully see them!
