So, after deciding not to do Gingling this weekend due to Friday night's deluge, we thought we'd have a crack at Trapdoor pot. Unfortunately our cave karma had obviously been used up earlier in the month and we ended up wandering around Fountains Fell for hours without finding it.
We did however end up in the entrance to a cave that looked interesting but I've got no idea what it was called. It was in a reasonably large shake hole west of the path up from the road to Cold Coates, had a jammed beam of wood above a small water fall and a squeeze down in to a chamber with an abandoned wooden ladder. There was then a short shored-up drop in to a couple of meters of stooping size rift which then popped out in to the top of a small pitch that seems to have been dug significantly - there was at least 10m of scaffolding and shoring and a single Petzl permanent bolt at the head of the pitch.
It's a bit of a vague dsecription, but does anyone have any idea where we might have been!? I'm pretty sure it wasn't Trapdoor as it didn't match the description in NFTFH and there was a very dead sheep we had to crawl over to get to the 10m pitch so it didn't look like anyone had been there recently.
Answers on a postcard.....
Cheers,
Chris
