Why is Pippikin Pot rigged?

Its been permanently rigged (not by me) since before 1994.
Along with Echo Aven and the 88ft Pitch
Over the years I've occasionally replace worn ones.
And I've used the in situ rigging for dozens of Pip to Top or Top to Pip traverses over the years.
The traverse (one of the best in the country) would be significantly more of a pain in the rear without these.

Does anyone know if any of these ropes need replacing? Echo, 88ft and Pippikin are the final bits of Easegill that a friend and I need to scout out before we do the traverse. If I know that one needs replacing I could take a rope with me.

Yes, one or more in Pippikin need replacing. I'm sorry I can't remember which ones, but the entrance rope for sure. There is another which is quite badly rubbed. It was rigged through a drilled thread if I remember correctly. Others may recall which one it is.

I was at Echo Aven in late December and I didn't see any signs of wear but who knows what's going on on the inside or how long it has been there!

Why would you not take a couple of ropes with you anyway? Then you can deal with problems as you find them on the day. Including pulling through if any are missing.

I think the other one was the second pitch

I think the other one was the second pitch
2nd pitch is a metal stemple and CNCC anchor. I don't think it has a rock thread

I think the one rigged off the rock that Hannah refers to is the 4th pitch (immediately after the acrobatic stemple climb). It is rigged from two knobs/flakes of rock on the right. There used to be an inneffective milk carton rub protector on the first knot, which I removed as it had come out of position. The main hang was damaged inside the knot loop.

The 5th pitch has a collection of slings knotted together for a handline and could do with being tidied up (threads in roof bedding)

But we don't really know what you'll find on the day, so better to go prepared and not rely on what you read on the internet
