Hē cwæð þæt hē būde on þǣm lande norþweardum wiþ þā Westsǣ

It is English, albeit ~1200 years old.

He said that he lived on the lands north(western?) with ?? westsea.

My interpretation. What does it actually say there?

Francis ;)

'He quoth that he lived in the land northward along the North Sea'
The North Sea, must have been known as the West Sea in the past. How similar is it to Norweigian?

You know when you're getting old when you can't be bothered to keep a thread on topic because it's much easier to go on and on rambling about anything you feel like and expect everyone else to be interested and not fall asleep.......... Well, I think so anyway. Did I ever tell you about the time when, now that's a LONG time back you know, when we used to use LADDERS to go down caves, and we had a whole cupboard full of them in our hut, which by the way was once a chicken shed. Did you know that chickens used to be kept in barns, and not little cages. The eggs used to taste so much better in them days and the yolks were always yellow, not that insipid pale yuk you always get now....... [snore, snore, snore]

Not very similar:

Old English: Hē cwæð þæt hē būde on þǣm lande norþweardum wiþ þā Westsǣ

Norwegian: Han sagt at han levd i landet nordover langs Nordsjøenen

The Wikipedia page from which this came is fascinating.
I had no idea that the term 'Modern English' covers the language from the 15th century; the page uses an extract from Dickens' Oliver Twist (1838) as an example of Modern English.

Ehm: Han sa at han levde nordover i landet langs nordsjøen ;)

Many words are similar to norwegian. The letters ð and þ are still in use in icelandic (I think) and are a "th" sound. Reading old English is similar to reading old Norwegian (we had to at school).

I know I'm old because, It's just occured to me that before I do the week-long backpack I've planned for the Spring, I'd better get the plantar fasciitis in my left foot fixed and have the new hernia out. Oh! and best to take a wooly hat now the bald patch has spread!

You are all wrong, wrong I tell you, you know you are old when your children include you in a group mail including this! In honety, how many of you can read this and say it doesnt make you feel old? Go on, be honest now!

ANYBODY UNDER THE AGE OF 13 SHOULD NOT RE-POST THIS.

JUST CAUSE YOU WERE BORN IN '93' OR '94' DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE A 90s KID. IT'S NOT LIKE YOU COULD REMEMBER SOME OF THE ORIGINAL SIMPSONS.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE A 90s KID IF...

YOU CAN SING THE RAP TO "THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR"

YOU REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS ACTUALLY WORTH GETTING UP ON A SATURDAY MORNING TO WATCH LIVE & KICKING OR SM:TV.

YOU HAD A HUGE FRINGE AT SOME POINT IN YOUR CHILDHOOD.

YOU REMEMBER READING AND WATCHING "GOOSEBUMPS"

YOU TOOK PLASTIC CARTOON LUNCH BOXES TO SCHOOL.

YOU REMEMBER THE CRAZE OF YO-YOS AND TAMAGOTCHIS

YOU STILL GET THE URGE TO SAY "NOT" AFTER EVERY SENTENCE. NOT.

YOU KNEW THAT KIMBERLY, THE PINK RANGER, AND TOMMY, THE GREEN RANGER WERE MEANT TO BE.

YOU COLLECTED POKEMON CARDS.

YOU PLAYED AND/OR COLLECTED POGS

YOU HAD A WEIRD ALIEN THAT LIVED IN GOOEY STUFF IN A PLASTIC 'POD' AND THOUGHT IF YOU STUCK 2 BACK TO BACK THEY WOULD HAVE A BABY!

YOU WATCHED THE ORIGINAL POSTMAN PAT, FIREMAN SAM AND NINJA TURTLES.

YOU REMEMBER WHEN THE NEW BEANIE BABIES WERE ALWAYS SOLD OUT

YOU GOT YOUR MUM TO BUY 'BN' BISCUITS

YOU USED TO WEAR THOSE STICK ON EARRINGS, NOT ONLY ON YOUR EARS BUT AT THE CORNERS OF YOUR EYES.

YOU KNOW THE MACERENA BY HEART.

"TALK TO THE HAND" ENOUGH SAID.

YOU REMEMBER THE TIME BEFORE LITERACY AND NUMERACY HOUR EXISTED.

YOU THOUGHT BRAIN FROM "PINKEY AND THE BRAIN" WOULD FINALLY TAKE OVER THE WORLD.

YOU REMEMBER BUM BAGS.

YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO BE ON FUN HOUSE

YOU COLLECTED TAZOS.

2 WORDS, SPICE GIRLS.

RE-POST THIS IF YOU ARE A BRITISH 90s KID AND CAN RELATE TO ANY OF THESE
