Lava caves in Mauritius?
« on: November 09, 2010, 12:29:05 pm »
I get the impression that there might be some lava caves in Mauritius (http://www.vulcanospeleology.org/sym09/ISV9Eal.pdf)  but don't seem to be able to find any useful information.  It might be a long shot, but does anyone know of any clubs on the island or useful documented surveys/ maps etc.?

Thanks in advance!

A search for 'Mauritius' (but don't use quotes) on the British Caving Library catalogue ( http://caving-library.org.uk/catalogue/catalogue.shtml ) reveals several references, including a 7 page article by Greg Middleton entitled
'Lava caves of the Republic of Mauritius, Indian Ocean.', and gives a link to the International Journal of Speleology website, from which you can download a PDF copy.

Chris,

There are indeed lava tube caves in Mauritius.  Greg Middleton is the man who knows about them - PM is on the way.
