COPD, letters = 2, 8

I'm still baffled with the 'clue'; where does COPD come from?

Is it Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease [Cave]?
I'm mystified by 'opens to river' in the clue.

COPD = Caves Of the Peak District so thats the book you'll find it it.  :)

And I suspect the rest of it goes like....

"Drives open" means take the first letter of Drives, ie a "D", onto means in front of, and "river " becomes its normal abbreviation which is an "R" - hence "DR" at the start of the answer.

For the rest, "raise" = "JACK" (as in to 'raise up' or 'jack up' something) and "masculine issue" becomes "SONS".

Well done bograt. I guessed it must be Black Keld but could not get the Black bit no matter how I tried. I was looking at XL (Roman 40) and removing it from Rolex, perhaps with an S from seconds. But didn't make sense. Your explanation is spot on. Must be correct.

Wrong answer but right result! Black Keld it is but not by the means quoted.

My Rolex was a watch not a camera - anyone wanna guess how? Or should I kiss and tell?

Or should we just let Bograt get on with it?

Oh go on then!

If you'd Googled forty second, by writing it thus "42nd" (and especially if you'd added "watch" from the Rolex clue) you'd have quickly encountered the 42nd Regiment of Foot, the Royal Highlanders, a.k.a the Black Watch. And if you'd have removed the Rolex from that you'd have ended up with Black. And the rest is history, or as I prefer to call it, Bograts go!

'Twas, I believe

Music party = DISCO
so out of it, = DI-C-
dance = CAN CAN
half cut = CAN ---
Thus DICCAN

Try this one then - and it better not last long 'cos I'm away all weekend!

Having discussed it with Maj, we think I was right:

Tigers ten: (toby) Flood
Casts spell: En Trance
On Grass: Pot

So here goes - first one, be gentle...

You may well be but I still don't understand why Tigers ten = Flood. The only Toby I know is the Frosties one.
