Wezzit with a twist quiz
« on: February 14, 2021, 09:38:50 pm »
Well, I've been very bored so put another quiz together...
I did something similar to this a while back for another hobby and it turned out to be quite hard so hopefully this doesn't turn out to be too harsh.

All you need to do is work out which 'major' cave lies below each image (all from google earth).  Some images contain more than one cave but the answer I'm looking for is the largest / most significant cave in each (no need to list all the minor sites).  All are well known in their respective areas.  They could be anywhere in the UK.

Answers in a few days.  I've an idea for another quiz in a couple weeks time if I'm still bored and you all seem keen.

I like this! Will take a bit of trawling Google Earth though!  ;D

Got 18 on the first scroll through, but that's it so far...

I reckon mikem will win.  ;)

Edit: Got 1 as well  :)

Great, got a day off and lots to do and now I'm going to have to spend time on this! 🙂

Only joking! Thanks Tim, great idea.

Pretty sure I've got 8 of them straight off and a few more I need to check on. Haven't got a clue about the others!

Very distracting! No 6 was hard, and 5 off the beaten track but think I have them all.

No2 looks much greener than I remember. Must have been on one of the two days of summer we have around here.

Well I've got 16, but my list of stuck ones is longer than yours: 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15  :-\

I think number one is Otter Hole as that muddy river will be the Wye and the cave is under Chepstow racecourse

4 is on my stuck list... though I'm sure it's blindingly obvious to anyone who knows...

Hence I assume it's blindingly obvious if you know... I just can't think of a single cave next to a ruined church, so I'm guessing I've never been to it...

Well it’s a long way from Durham, but not as far from where you currently live. The wine made here is popular in Scotland.

I’m no good at cryptic clues but here’s the letters:

Definitely never been to Bakers Pit, perhaps I should?

Not been to 5 either, but it's a very distinctive bit of coastline, so the only option is Ogof Gofan

Got 18 out of 20 now.  :)  Still stuck on 15 and 16.

Got the last few by thinking 'That looks like a certain area of the peak', 'That looks a bit Scotlandish', 'That's on the coast. What well known caves do I know that are by the sea?'

15 looks a bit Mendipy or Forest of Deanish, to me. 16 not got a clue.

I haven't got anywhere in N. Ireland so maybe they are there?

Likewise, no clue for 15.

16 is in the Dales if that helps. I ended up going the wrong way in the dark and the fog after a trip their once. Definitely lacking in features during those conditions... Fortunately I was able to retrace my steps based on the wind direction and got my bearings sorted once back at the shake hole.
