Parc No.3 Adit
« on: December 16, 2021, 10:00:09 am »
Yesterday I was discussing Parc number 3 adit and wondered if access was still possible without going via number 2 and abseiling down?
Can you get in via Kneebone's Cutting instead?

I believe that you can, although not the route I have used. Someone else may be able to tell you more.

Hello gentlemen.

I have been their a few times recently stood in the lower knee bones with Chris we did enter from the no 2 though , I did realise the open top stope which I believe is possibly original Parc open stopes there might be a way to slide down this bank near it  but it could end badly if wet, i  would advise looking at this and possibly taking a rope . I shall look at my photos see if I can find one .

Regards Tom

Reading with great interest... Parc is somewhere I've not visited yet, had hoped end of last week but one of my kids having (thankfully mild) Covid derailed my planning. Not being familiar with the site and wanting to keep a lower profile than standing in front of main adits I'd *assumed* that kneebones was something to explore. I saw a video of someone entering a small hole (no fence?) in the ground (srt) and emerging on a ledge within kneebones at 2:35 in the video it looks like in the cutting there is a gully you might be able to scramble down ( youtube.com/watch?v=gV_w9sdwQWM)
A short bit of old rope round a tree and descend that gully into kneebones was my thoughts on a first explore?
that said it does look a bit damp that route in. I follow "NNN" (Nothing North of Nuts) approach on initial explores unless it's known to be worthwhile route, but for parc I'm willing to swim!

I have always entered by the no 2 and took the eastern winze ( by the lab) down to no 3 to explore the section outbye of the fall on the Gorlan Lode.
The other side inner reaches are chest deep, and higher, gained from the western winze after the "three thritches" at the end of 2. This is the route to western Cwffty.

It been years since I was last there, need to get away from Ceredigion

The notes are dated 7/5/00 !!  hope not too much has collapsed without having asked you first

Are there any addendums to access, say entrance choices if someone wanted to visit but be discrete

My album if of any use
Aaahh  https://flickr.com/photos/193182234@N06/51571969388/in/album-72157719650478743/  that's what I was thinking about using a bit of old rope to get down, however from other info in the thread I'd be the wrong side of the collapse (on level 3) from a lot of Parc entering from there?
Also that pic shows bars accross the entrance?  or is that looking further outby

As Tom says, yes you can. All of the water flowing outbye now appears to be going into Kneebones through a hole in the blockwork, and draining through the bottom on Kneebones Cutting.

We never ventured further outbye along No. 3 past Kneebones as it could be seen to be wet, and we knew there was no point! So we don't know what the terminal collapse looks like.

From Kneebones you can get inside the collapse through a hole in the bars. Then there is the choke dam. This has a large diameter pipe in it and bars, which have been cut.

Preferred route is still down from 2. I believe some new ladders were fitted while back to obviate the necessity for SRT on the final 20 foot vertical drop. I will have to see. Been ages since I was last in there, shame on me.

If you get into Kneebones, there are two ways into Level 3. One has all of the water flowing through it, the other is down a mud slope.

The descent from 2 to 3 is laddered all the way to the sub level, then it is a pre-rigged SRT descent into the ore hopper.

Question please gents. Reading again the guide it mentions that in 2012 the collapse in the audit 3 portal cause water to back up making "..access via Kneebones cutting impractical" is this no longer the case then? Or is it seasonal that it's impractical in Winter/wet months?

I would assume that means because when you drop in you are in deep water and are wet for what is really a dry trip . But I stand to be correct on this.

I think that's probably correct Tom. The water in Level 3 would have to get at least a foot deeper than it was when we were there to prevent access via Kneebones.

Not quite Roy. The ladders only replace the missing sections on the ladderway. The abseil through the ore hopper still needs SRT.
Never mind, aye

A long time since I have seen your name !! I asked sinker how you was keeping as I thought is he lost in a mine shaft ?!

Aditnow user name was down and beyond .

Regarding parc there is a rope in situ I wouldn’t say it looks great , Chris rigged ours with his own rope it’s certainly “used”

Haha, yes it's been a while since I've posted anything. Still out and about though as much as possible.
Regarding that rope, I did fit some old innertube as a rope protector round the rusty pipe after seeing one was looking very frayed.
