Surface Pitches

I had a fairly cheap reminder to always follow best practice earlier today.

In desperate need of a cold shower a couple of us went down Hardrawkin, and conditions being icy we installed a ten metre rope from the fence into the stream and hence down the 3 metre climb as an aid. On exit I found the rope had been pulled up and was lying by the fence, probably by a passing walker. Fortunately the climb out was not problematic, but it did serve as a reminder for me to tie off the bottom of ropes on surface pitches. If it had been the wet entrance to Sell Gill, the outcome may have been very different.
