Yesterday I enjoyed an outing with some chums to Long Kin West, which has a 90m entrance pitch, the top half strenuous and free-hanging away from any walls. One of our number, Frank Pearson, shot up it using a DMM Revolver krab attached to a sling, which in turn was attached to his harness centre fixing. He had it going from there up and round his back so the krab sat on his left shoulder.
This system seems to keep one held into the rope so it's less strenuous to climb a big pitch.
I wonder if others have had experience with this method, or had any tips for its use. Does it work with the standard frog technique, or only if you "ropewalk" with a Pantin or something similar?
