@bat: The banquet must be pre-booked and has limited numbers so we would really prefer it was booked now. But if you can't commit to the banquet yet please go ahead and book tickets. You'll need to email the bookings secretary later to amend your booking and add the banquet.

@Mike Butcher: The catering is going to be handled by an outside caterer who specialises in this kind of thing.  So you can expect something well worth the ?20.

Regarding day rates: The cost of running the event is around the same per person per week irrespective of the number of days they actually attend. At this stage we do intend to offer day tickets on the door but we won't be able to set pricing for them until much closer to the event when we know that we can break even.

We do also have a capacity limit at the venue which we do not expect to reach...  However, if the event is too(!) successful we may not be able to offer day tickets at all.

Cheers!

All is revealed! Knew I'd seen it somewhere.

Could really do with being on the other pages as well, or at least an obvious link back to the home page? I clicked through the other four looking for it but didn't click the logo which takes you to the home page.

Just tried to book tickets, but I get a server error when I click on Buy Tickets Now on the tickets page.

An error occurred during a connection to bookings.british-caving.org.uk. The OCSP server suggests trying again later. (Error code: sec_error_ocsp_try_server_later)

Will try again later :)

We've had some reports this happens intermittently with FireFox.

Either try with Internet Explorer or as you say, try again later.

Yup - works with IE.
Thanks!

There's a problem with the web server run by StartSSL that uses OCSP[1] to verify that SSL/TLS certificates haven't been revoked.

It shows up not just for Duncan and myself, but for this well regarded SSL/TLS testing website.

https://dev.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=bookings.british-caving.org.uk&s=31.25.186.126&hideResults=on

OCSP ERROR: Exception: Read timed out [http://ocsp.startssl.com/sub/class1/server/ca]

If it works in IE, but not in recent Firefox, that's because IE isn't, by default[2], as security conscious.

To (temporarily, of course) disable OCSP stapling in FF, go to the about:config page and set "security.ssl.enable_ocsp_stapling" to false.

"However, if a given certificate specifies a CRL or OCSP URL, but the revocation check cannot be completed (say, because the Certificate Authority?s server is not reachable), Internet Explorer will not notify the user."

It's a known problem.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the info.

As you say it is because FireFox is doing it right and IE is lax.

Disable stapling in FireFox is probably beyond most people and not necessarily a good idea so I opted to explain the work around.

I'm hoping startSSL will get their act together otherwise I'll be get certs from a new provider.

It's only a work-around if you are running MS Windows.

Sounds like a plan. They are cheap, but then you get what you pay for. I have a free certificate from them for one of my vanity domains and had noticed the issue a couple of times recently, but it went away quickly. A few hours it seemed to have become permanent, though it's better now.

Offer really cheap deals for people that can commit and then sting those who don't have the easy life or maybe don't want to/can't attend for a full week. Strange logic. I'll see how things go and if a day or two is overpriced I won't bother, assuming I'm even capable of attending by then.
