seen a couple of bats in a few caves a while back but not recently. we used to have two bats flying round our house at night a couple of years back .

Came down one morning to find one hanging from the kitchen light fitting

I hope you didn't disturb it...

how far away from the bat were you when you notices?

On a trip to Mendip 3 weeks ago there was a bat or bats flitting in and out of Rhino Rift entrance at dusk and a sleeping bat in Swildons in the Long Dry Way.

Bats still on the wing in Box this weekend...
And mosquitos/bugs  - as one bit me!

Oh, as I came through the door, so about 4ft away. Can't remember the details - it was many years ago. I do remember we released it in the evening, and as it flew off another bat appeared and flew off with it.

We don't have a clue how it got here, and can only assume one of the cats brought it in. How would a cat catch a bat? But it's much more likely than a  bat making its own way through a catflap (all the windows and doors were closed).

To assist the general protection of bats it may help not to publicise their whereabouts.

Who or what are we protecting them from, Cap'n?

From unscrupulous people who steal them from caves and sell them on ebay! :)

OK, let's put it a bit less vaguely - it will help to protect them from the loneliness they will feel when, as a result of their whereabouts being publicised on internet forums, they are locked away behind grilles which means no-one can go and visit the sites where they happen to like to hang around. Hint, hint.

How did you guess? Not many people believe me when I tell them. My other initials are P, W & T; bet you can't guess what they stand for?

Back on topic...

I almost hit a bat on the drive home last night. First time i have had one in the headlights before. Must have woken in the unseasonable warm weather and been a bit groggy. I missed him by inches! Lets hope they don't get caught out by a cold snap!
