mr lackington where you with somone called giles if so then i was person who came down to have a look at shower pot on saturday

Quite correct matey.
I haven't done Rods for many a year but have previously been in Bath (since it got a lot bigger) several times, our cunning plan was to ladder Bath, go deep into the diggings & hopefully find the connection, see if we could free climb the shaft, if not, exit Bath, go into Rods & hopefully (wasn't too hopeful) find way into Bath then double a rope 7 pull through
but some lovely person, you, had very helpfully left a ladder for us, cheeeers

Sounds like exchange trips are the ones most likely to succeed here!

We think you are correct Peter.
An exchange trip would be fun but also less tooing & froing

Hi Ian.
Nice meeting you in Bath Swallet the other day. Did you go down Sunday in the end?
Really enjoyed the through trip.
Just one thing to those who may be concerned, when climbing out of Rods Pot I shifted a bloody great rock about 1m diameter that seemed quit dagerously balancing between 2 walls. Its on the climb just before the 2 pots.
We were using it a hand hold thinking it was solid. I tried it and it moved as its right over head it would have squashed me.

On the climb just before the 2 pots as you're leaving i.e. on the approach to the 2 pots from lower in the cave or....

On the climb just after the 2 pots as you're exiting?

Did you dislodge the rock and make it safe?
Did you just manage to move the rock but it remains in situ, possibly posing an enduring hazard?

ON the climb just before the 2 Pots.
It just moved and remained in situ.
Do you usally put any kit in that bit.

Hello Giles,
I thought it was just above the last climb out of Rods,
very near the entrance, as you were leaving the rift, am I wrong?

The Bracknell & The Axbridge did a joint Exchange trip in here Saturday.
I think we had 18 people, It worked well.
This is going to be very, very, very popular.
Well done The Cheddar for sorting this gem.

Clear as mud; "on the climb just before the 2 pots" - yes, ok; but from which direction? - on the way in, or on the way out?

Do you know the way to the pub? - Yes, take the third left turn before you get to the oak tree.  ::)

Right I will clear the mud.
When we first did the through trip a few weeks ago from Bath to Rod's,
I had not been in Rod's for a decade, neither of the other two had been in before, as we clambered over the double pots,
I remembered them, up the rift, then there is a climb up.
We did not see the narrow rift (way out near the top) but climbed up the open hole, just beyond it,
Farmer Giles pulled himself up by grabbing what he thought was the roof.
It was not the roof but a massive boulder in the roof which moved, so he decided not to pull on it.
Hope the mud has cleared. ::)

Are you going to have a look at it Chris?

It would be unfortunate if it were to fall down on somebody  :(

(but not as unfortunate than if it was to fall on me  )

Menacer you are a bad person  :chair:

It implies nothing of the sort.

I thought that Chris, who now knows where it is (ish) might be planning to visit soon and maybe "deal with it" if necessary.  ;)

I on the other hand still have no idea where it is as I don't actually know Rods that well.
If I were to visit I might pull it down on top of me  :-\

Well, since the report of rubbish at the bottom of the double pots (which I hope was collected but perhaps wasn't) and having adopted the cave a couple of months back I guess perhaps checking out the boulder is the right thing to do.

Well, I can save you some bother, I went down one of the pots, the one nearer Rod's Pot entrance, there was no rubbish at all down there.

There are 2 threads going for Bath Swallet, the other is in the digging forum:

Thanks; that's one less job, then.  (y)

Just thought, although there did not seem to be any rubbish down the double pots.
There is still that rocking boulder near the exit.

As you enter Rod's from the outside world, you slip through the entrance puddle, then turn right.
You then have two choices, you can either descend the cave via an easy tightish rift
or you can go through a bigger, higher hole.
The loose boulder is at the top of the bigger, higher hole.
Did anyone else check it out?
