Ah, but there is a distinct difference between "waterproof" and "cave proof", as many of us have found out to our cost when taking so-called "waterproof" watches underground.
Agree that if you put your phone in a Pelicase then it will be cave proof - but doesn't that negate the whole idea of having something where you can just take a quick glance to check?
I guess "sharing" your laminated photocopy of the page out of the caving guide means that others in your party have a quick look over your shoulder - that's OK under the rules.
