Yes, Ogof Gwynt yr Eira is still open but if you go there take great care as it is very, very loose in places. Not a good place for inexperienced cavers or SRT practice (unless it is practice at dodging falling rocks that you are after). Please put the covers back after any visits - the current iron sheets are not in great nick and the plan is to replace them in the near future.

I noticed a nice shiny new cover on Ogof Gwynt yr Eira this weekend. Was that your work Nig? If so, well done!

Yes, we placed new covers on Ogof Gwynt yr Eira and Ogof yr Eira (the original Gwynt yr Eira on the opposite side of the road) a month or so ago. Along with Ogof y Nant, these caves are now well-covered (and accessible) and will hopefully remain so.

Did you go down Gwynt yr Eira?  Whilst removing the older covers, the 'huge boulder' noted by WillDeBeast in an earlier post unfortunately fell down the entrance shaft. It seemed to break up on impact but as I didn't have any gear with me I couldn't go down to find out so there is a chance it could have been blocking the way into the crawl at the bottom. Just wondered if you noticed anything.

I didn't go down. I was just passing. I'm sure it won't be too much work for the next person to clear the way, the rock is very brittle and shattered thereabouts!
