I'm looking for a copy of Race Against Time by Eyre and Frankland.

I'd prefer a hardback.

Have any of our resident booksellers got one for sale?

It turns up on fleabay quite often.  Expect to pay ?20 or more.

I have finally moved into my new house, it is very small, barely larger than a rabbit hutch.  I really need to shift some books.  No reasonable offer refused, postage extra

Matches?  (y)  I bet you've got no end of old tat that is only fit for the bonfire.

Chris.

You have a deal.  A bit relucktant.  I will no longer have an excuse to take the piss out of you again.

Apart from being foul mouthed it seems you are not a man of your word and not to be trusted as I have made you the cash offer as agreed here and you have renaged!!!

Moi, foul mouthed?    You have the wrong guy.  :ang:  Your offer of ?1K for ?4K worth of books was turned down.   I can get more on fleabay.  :)  You also queried the condition.  Some are brand new, but others are over a 100 years and show wear, but still good condition for their age.  No good me sending them to Newport in good faith and then having to get them back at my own expense when you query the condition.

Get it right overpriced books. I doubt you would have offered me that much from what I hear of your sharp practice and you have renaged

As for condition it is nornmal practice to describe condition particularly the more valuable items unless you are hiding something?

Mike, I don't understand why you put your good reputation at risk by trying to do business with people you don't trust.

I think from now on I will call  MM the FW.  PM me if you need a translation.  I am not sure why Peter is wetting his pants over me, but I am sure I will find a suitable nick name for him.  All suggestions welcome.  Unlike FW, I have been selling caving books for over 60 years, so I must be doing something right.  Sometime ago I decided to retire and buy a TV licence.  This is why I am selling off my library of caving books.  My motto is:

"My name is Tony Oldham and I am a lifelong collector of caving books, I sometimes need to sell a few to make space for the many new ones that appear.  I also edit a caving magazine - The British Caver, which was first published in 1936 by the late Gerrard Platten.  I have published over 17 books, mainly caving guide books to such diverse places and Malta, Scotland, West Wales and Devon.  Why not ask for my book list?
My motto is "The customer is always right".  In the very few cases when a customer complains, I have always made them happy by refunding their postage or send some other item free of charge."

Many cavers on Ukcaving have bought books from me, or I have sourced them from abroad for a modest commission.  I can write about 8 European languages and so dealing with these  [racialst word deteled] people is not a problem.  On other websites, which I am not allowed to mention here, I have sold numerous mining books.  My mining book list went from 16 pages to 4 pages, so I mus be doing something right.

FW is a time waster.  He made an offer, I took the books off my shelves and boxed them up, ready for his brother to collect.  But he welshed on me and did not sent any money.  I wasted a whole afternoon putting them back again. I will never, ever deal with him again and I advise Ukcavers to do likewise.  He is a complete toe rag.

I've changed my original comment. Tony, you aren't worth the effort to compose a reply.

Peter, You will not get away.  The contest is open for a new nick name for you.  I do not think Bubbu will banned me as I have made a substantial donation.

Kay - you have a good point which I hadn't noticed. It's a bit of a Hobson's Choice really. If someone posts something that could merit a ban, but that person has publicly stated that he has made a contribution, then if the ban does not happen, Bubba is immediately open to accusations of taking a bung. I can't see a way back unless the donation is returned.
