Caving Memes

Not just you Fulk, I hadn't a clue either.
Must admit that this whole thread is a puzzle though. Are memes a joke, a sort of cartoon or something else entirely?
They are kind of both at once - standard formatted images which you change to make a new joke (in this thread: caving related). Often the original image was in a somewhat serious context and part of the joke is it’s being used for silly purposes. You can use your own standard image too but they tend to refer to standard jokes. It helps if you’ve seen the format before to get each joke. There’s an excellent website which BabyHagrid linked to which explains all memes.

‘change my mind’ is a common format for a controversial statement. The joke is that someone feels so strangely about it that they have made a public stand to argue that point.

Thank you Lara, that's made it a bit clearer. Not knowing the standard pictures seems to be one reason for my confusion. Your explanation about them being a joke but sometimes a serious statement explains the rest of my puzzlement.
Cheers

Many thanks to those who have provided explanations of what memes are all about. Can you imagine, though, that for someone who's never heard of Steven Crowder, a picture of some random bloke sat at a desk spouting 'stuff' could seem to be a bit odd. Anyway, they're making sense now.

PS Even I got the Trump one!!
