Eggy Smell in County Pot

I was down County Pot today and there was a distinct smell of egg in the bedding plane near Poetic Justice Bypass. Does anyone know the likely cause of this? My guess was some sulphur-containing gas. Would it be considered foul air to be avoided?

OK , Hands up it was me , I had a Chicken Vindaloo followed by 10 pints of Doom Bar the night before, my arse was leaking like a deflating balloon for the entire trip.

You should definitely avoid following me through any caves after I've had a night like this, I'll try and post where I'm going in future so you can avoid the foul air.

Apologies.

Do people still use carbide? If so, do they also ride to work on horseback, employ boys to clean chimneys, and perhaps have slaves to dress them?

Some limestones have a natural sulphur content which you can smell if the rock is subject to sudden movement or impact. Perhaps some loose boulders have settled or some collapse might have happened.

Some carbide is more sulphurous than others. Especially the big stuff you got in 200kg drums for making acetelyne for cutting, rather than the mice poo stuff. I still have about 10kg left. I have several Explorer sets still, so will probably run it down before it turns to dust.

You will only smell something if it?s not burnt, and it would have be very recent. Otherwise something else is rotting, maybe it?s the toad I saw there recently.

I remember the smell of dead sheep down there a few months back, but not sulphur.

Jacob Rees Mogg is the MP for the constituency just to the north of the main Mendip caving areas, so perhaps he was underground earlier that day. Carbide might be a bit to modern for him though. Tallow candle perhaps?

I heard MUSC spent a long time there the day before, they probably belted out some huge whoppers that were still lingering when you were there. Having also suffered the stench of the west midlands before I can only sympathise with your poor nostrils

Funnily enough one of the MUSC freshers commented on the eggy smell. I just said he probably just hadn?t noticed himself fart
