FOUND PETZL STOP

Smithers

New member
Whilst caving in Yorkshire this weekend I found a Petzl Stop and steel screwgate carabiner left in a well known gear dumping ground at the bottom of a pitch in a well known cave up in the Masongill Fell Lane/Ireby Fell area.

If you can tell me which cave and where abouts you think you may have left it I'll you know where the stop and crab have been left for safe keeping.

Cheers,

Chris

But none of it is there ;). Not only the Dales, I am missing a book in the Dachstien region of Austria , I should be able collect that if it is still there, when I return.

I could list all the stuff, so what the heck.

Recent losses:
Magnotometer - Yss crab, vanished into the rift at Caton hall.
Birks Fell - BRCC spanner and hangers.
King Pot - my gear, foot jammer, got that back.
Titan  - Hand Jammer (my gear), got that back at the bottom but did not use it again.

Old losses:
Titan (different trip) - Backup light, came off my helmet at the traverse and smashed into 1 million pieces.
Hammer Pot - my gear, got most of that back. (Tackle sack, camera, SRT gear) - Knee pads and wellies still at bottom of stemple rift.
Fell towards GG - my gear, (head cam)
Collyholme Cave - my gear (only a welly)
Whereever I was before a week before Ireby fell sand bag moving - my gear. (chest jammer)
Bull Pot Lane - my gear, two weeks after buying it! Left by the road, this was my first loss. (chest jammer & strap)

Is this above normal for 3 years of caving? No wonder I am poor!

If we're playing a guessing game, I assumed from the description it was found at the bottom of the pitches into Rift, or at the bottom of Colossus in Large.

Alex that is not normal! HOW did you forget your wellies??? must have been uncomy getting back out.

my losses in a year - 1 towel (and a pair of neoprene gloves which i lent out and never got back  )

Well actually there were 3 instances where I have lost my wellies now I think about it.

Hammer pot, well that was a disaster really, wellies are at bottom of stemple rift, UN-retrivable. The hook I used to get my other gear could not be used on the wellies.

Collyholme, I descended a pitch only ever descended once before ever! The welly fell off while I was getting out. Since it took more then an hour of banging and struggling etc to get back up the tiny pitch, there was no way I was going back for it.

Swan Dyke, fell off returning through the "trick" again being very difficult to negotiate I was not going back for it!

Basically where ever it is extremely tight there is probably one of my wellies. I did manage not to loose any in Quaking though that is not as tight up to the crux at least as people say it is. I also buy a lot smaller sized now to stop that from happening.

I think however I am cursed.

So for whoever follows there's the added constriction of wellies in the way...
I think however I am cursed.
Yes. I think you've left/lost/abandoned more gear in 3 years than I have in 13 or so.

Isn't there also a time you turned up in another caving region - see, they do get outside The Dales, occasionally - having forgotten your wellies and had to borrow a pair? Can you not get a piece of string to go up inside one trouser leg and down the other to keep both wellies connected to each other and to you, just like four year olds and their gloves?  ;)

Nah they were still in the (near) the normal region, hence the problem. In that instance I think I had merely left them at home.

This has happened so much I bet I am now the only caver in the country with a back up pair ready to go!

String? hmm, I would only loose the string.

I think my other policy of buying 2 sizes too small so they cant come off is helping too.

There was the time you turned up not expecting to cave, and borrowed a helmet and light off one person and a pair of wellies off another ...

Having read this lot, I'm surprised anyone lent you anything  :tease:

(And yes, you did return everything to the rightful owners  (y))

Some chaps from Eldon who were at YSS recently were chatting in the lounge, and laughing at the wellies they saw down there  :)
