Hi Ditzy, well done in being brave enough to face your demons. I remember reading absolute disgusting hatred about your situation in your local Stoke newspaper websites, and could never believe how people could not recognize how desperate your mental health issues where at that time. The best of luck in getting your life back in order.

Hi Ditzy - I think your user status says it all. Forum Hero.
I work with an awful lot of people with mental health issues and I know just how strong you need to be to not only get on with a normal life, but to talk about it somewhere as public as this. It's very easy to crawl into that dark place and try to shunt the blame onto all sorts of things. Facing up to what's happened and working through it, even with the support of friends and family, takes an amazing amount of courage.

I'm sure you're already finding out that there'll be plenty of people like Mark ready to knock you back down but, with the love and support that you seem to have from Brains and the strength you've already shown by posting about it in a public forum, I have no doubt you'll get through this and find that there's just as many, if not more, that will help you on the way up.

This thread should be removed. I have no idea what has been going on here but what this is an example of is posts from one group of people who think they know what it's all about and another set from others who haven't a clue. Putting on my doctor's hat if this poor person has mental health problems being nasty is not going to be very helpful to their recovery.

"Forum hero" my arse

We were all taken in by her original sob story and felt sorry for her

"mental health issues'?

do dogs have mental health issues?

I bet hers do

(ah but they are only dogs)

No matter what is going on in someones head, I still cannot forgive this sort of cruelty to defenceless animals, and I suspect that in happier times Ditzy may have felt the same

Given that we just about still live in a democratic society - Its upto Ditzy and Brains whether this thread stays or goes. She started the post and Brains has continued to post since.

They are both of sound mind enough to make their own decisions on whether the posts are helpful or harmful to Ditzys recovery. The " report to mod" button is freely available to all.

Im not convinced that censorship  of all the uncomfortable things in life is the way forward myself but thats just my opinion.

UKCaving is not part of the British justice system, and neither is it part of the health service. I expect that both these institutions have played an appropriate part in this story. That's what they are there for. What UKCaving is, is a community of people with a single common interest of caving. As such, it seems appropriate to me that we should not publicly be making judgements or diagnoses, which none of us are in a position to do. I believe that as part of the UKCaving community we should support each other in our common interest, or if you don't feel able to do that, just stay quiet. There are plenty of other members to discuss things with without resorting to having a go at someone about whom you probably know very little. Brains' post on our attitudes to mental health says it all. It's a shame some openly choose to ignore that message. It doesn't matter what history the target of your bile might have, it is nothing short of bullying, and most certainly breaks the forum code, in my book.

The worst form of keyboard warrior in my view is the one that wants to shut down debate because he or she thinks only their view is the right one.

This is a democratic society. We dont live in China.
This is an open forum, not a support group.

Whether you agree or not peter, some people are very nervous of mental health issues and dont treat them like physical ones for this very simple reason.

If you break your arm, my arm is not broken, if you have a heartattack I dont have a heart attack.
If you have a stroke I dont have a stroke.

With mental health, other people/ animals are potentially in the firing line.

You cannot strip away/censor  different peoples responses to self preservation just because it doesn't conform to what you believe to be true.

Never been afraid to say what I think Peter, and I am sure it will offend some,

But I am sure if you use the report post button my offensive comments will be instantly deleted.

Menacer I am only advocating self-restraint in what is posted, not censorship. If the mods choose to lock a post, it is not censorship in that nothing is actually being removed from view. I agree with what you say about freedom to post what you like but if you do so without accepting the responsibility of care for those you affect, you are nothing short of a bully and a "keyboard warrior" of the worst kind.

Mark you are an Eldon member. Good mates with one of the mods I suspect. Says it all.....  :(

Yes I am very good mates with one of the mods Peter, but if you think thats how he operates, you are seriously more deluded than I previously thought.

As far as I can see nobody is breaking any rules.  If Ditzy wants the topic pulled then we can do so, but otherwise it should stay - people are allowed to state their opinion on here as long as there's no threats or direct abuse.

Personally I'm all for giving someone a second chance. But the way this thread is going I think the moderators ought to lock it.
