Ingleborough Hall closure consultation; petition

Anyone who would like to do their bit to encourage Bradford council to find a way to avoid the closure of Ingleborough Hall might like to sign this petition. It only takes a few seconds. (Ingleborough Hall does of course get used from time to time by the caving community generally for various functions, so its closure would not only affect the many school groups which benefit from it.)

Would have signed but it asks that you live, work or study in the Bradford area and give your local address.

As a caver - bearing in mind Ingleborough Hall is used from time to time by the caving community (e.g. CRO) then I think you have a legitimate interest in this facility remaining open. So don't let that bit put you off signing anyway.

Bradford Council can't afford to keep both outdoor centres open. Most of the courses etc can be run from Buck House.

It can barely afford to fund front line services - already a ban on recruitment and about 100 job losses identified.

Like many councils it is on the verge of being declared bankrupt following years of Government funding cuts

Yes, it needs some creative thinking to save this one. And there are certain aspects of doing things via Buckden House which are inferior to the Clapham option.

That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with Buckden House of course! It's just that, in some ways Clapham is a better location - greater variety of suitable caves, a show cave within walking distance, nearby climbing wall, an arguably greater variety of walks not needing minibuses to get there (including seeing Gaping Gill), large area of mature trees for tree climbing, an easier journey along the A65 to get there for travel sick children, better road access for coach parties, etc.

The more folk sign the more likely the necessary creative thinking, by those in the very well paid top jobs, is likely to happen.

I have signed, although I am not local.

We have lost our own local authority outdoor centre in recent years which was a great asset, both our girls used it during school holidays and you could even just rock up there and hire kayaks and canoes etc. A mates holiday job there when we were young turned into a career in outdoor training. It's now being turned into a crematorium  💀
