Quite agree.

I assume that by responsibly you mean not bypassing hard won existing access agreements because you don't like them?

Please don't contact the landowners! Contact the FOD management committee.  Management groups like this and others (e.g the Llangattock one, Pwll Ddu etc. etc.) exist to provide a single point of contact between the landowner and cavers.  Landowners don't want to deal with individuals on a one to one basis, they'd rather build up a relationship with a single body who then keep their own house in order.  Part of the reason that access to some dive sites is through the CDG (apart from the one of insurance) is so that should a cave diver cause some sort of bother then the access body can tell the CDG who then sort it out.  Same reason that access to some caves is only open to bone fide caving club members - should I leave the gate to Ogof Draenen open (for example) and the landowner objects - he'll contact the Pwll Ddu cave management body who will then contact Chelsea SS (my caving club) and then the secretary or somebody will give me a bollocking.

I don't know why you just don't join the CDG of have you/they got a grudge against them/you?

I don't know if Dunkin Dr Price is a UKIP member. But he is open to helping you guys get in.

As he says, contact the Forest of Dean access committee as the landowners don't want to be contacted.

Also, whoever is posting on here as "UKMC". May I presume anything said is the official position of UKMC?

It seems to be as if multiple people have access to the UKMC account and it does not represent one person ?

As Duncan has said - dont contact the land owner. Please speak to the access group. Please don't dive there without permission. You will be seen almost certainly and the land owner may well question it with the access group (it has happened quite a few times already). You will upset many people if you affect hard won access privileges....

I am a member of the CDG and also UKMC - in fact I wore my UKMC T-shirt to the pub last night.

I don't see why UKMC is not allowed to have a blue BCA insurance card as many of them are more qualified to cave/mine dive than I am.  I'm not going to continue that topic any further except to say that the CDG put in a hell of a lot of effort to get the deal with BCA/BCA's insurers that we have.  It not easy for another organisation with no track record to come along and expect the same treatment.  I think that UKMC members have done a lot of good work to get diving access to the mines of North Wales and I hope that the next edition of the Welsh Sump Index is a joint effort with them.

Sadly there are some sites that I'd like to cave (dive) in but I can't - that's life - there are others that I have had to jump through the right hoops to get into.

3 years worth of UK diving as a
Club and 60+ members is not "no track record"

Compared to 70 years worth of UK diving, 120 current members (God knows how many cavers have been members since 1946).

Ewan, I'm on your side, but I'll tell you that jumping up and down on your keyboard won't strengthen your case.

Well official meetings and paperwork seem not to work as well so brushing it under the carpet by CDG and BCA it is then

I'm happy to jump up and down in person to anyone that will listen

The problem is that the last time I dived Noxon Park, I got so scared that I gave up cave diving for 6 months and nearly stopped completely.  Its a shit hole and should be filled in.

Having said that, if you want to try talking to the FOD access body (not the landowners) then I'll be supportive.  I understand that a cave diver training agency uses the site with its blessing (I may be wrong) - insurance is the key.

UKMC insurance by the look of the cover is a better policy than the one BCA offers more but it's a bigger price

Let's hope land owners like it they may well be impress by the level of cover and extras we have added

But you're jumping up and down about the same point.

Your asking questions.
Your getting answers which you can go away and action.

Why will you not just go away and ask FoDCCAG as you have been told to do 5 maybe even 6 times. Reading things on their website is not the same as asking.

Even better if you're up in Yorkshire next week you could talk to them face to face if both sides are up. Some people find things easier that way, I certainly do.
