Mendip caves: worth a visit or not?

I would very much like to see Welsh's Green (just the once!)

Meanwhile, I would very much recommend Manor Farm as a cave that needs no key or leader. Just a call into the local farm with shiny ?2 coins. (Or has it gone up again?)

I live about ten minutes from Quaking House. You just have to ask nicely at the farm/cottage by the road (preferably in advance). It is a nice little cave for an evening trip - lots of crawls, a pretty crystal pool and a slightly fiendish u-bend. Probably not worth the trip from Mendip unless you're collecting the esoteric.

Lamb Leer
is worth a visit

not forgetting that access is denied to lamb leer  :-\
and as responsible cavers we could not possibly suggest to any one to go and break the access conditions!!!!!!! :o

Badger, you could ask The Shepton to take you down Gibbets Brow Shaft,
I've heard that is *quite" close to Lamb Leer
;)

I was wondering about this t'other day. So, how much momentum is there at that dig? Have things ground to a halt? Or is it not looking promising?

I wonder how long ago the last permitted trip occurred,
must be twenty years ago perhaps

Yeah well, play the long game. It was also over twenty years that access was not permitted to Fairy Cave Quarry.

I believe the last permitted trip was much more recent than that. I think the MNRC got permission on their centenary for a visit to look at the Beehive to check how much stal had grown over the carved initials.

I could be wrong though  :-\

I think the farmer has always permitted access to Lamb Leer for a price!!

He rents the combe out for clay-pigeon shooting, offroad vehicles, mountain bikes, ..

Not unreasonably he expects a similar return from the cavers that visit ..

It is a long time since I spoke to him and the price was too high for my liking but ..
now I would pay!!!

So how much would you pay, per head per trip?

And when you've decided that then work out how much more you would then be paying for Swildons, which as a far more interesting cave would be worth a hefty premium.

And then we'll talk about the Burrington caves & think "hmm they are in great demand, I wonder how much can be made from that."

Still, I should worry, as soon as Mendip access is put on a decent commercial footing the Charterhouse members can start getting a decent return on Longwood, Rhino & G.B.

gibbets dig is still going with work curantly being centered on the phreatic tube below excaliber rift.
