Mendip caves: worth a visit or not?

Ended up going down Hunters Hole (topo from CSCC is wrong!) and also Rods to Bath through trip all in one day  ;D

The connection was completely dry and quite roomy, not sure why there is a sign asking cavers to help dig a bucket worth. The climb up Bath was rather hairy, but we managed it with our rope from the pull through. Good climbing skills are defo an advantage.

Thrupe Lane is still on my list of caves to do - too much faffage on Sunday!

The incorrect topo will remain incorrect until whatever is incorrect with it gets detailed
You haven't got a job with The Plain English Campaign, have you?

John Wells, President of the Spelling Society, which campaigns for 'spelling reform', said this week that the ?apostrophe is a waste of time?, and that there are more important things to do than worry about correct spelling.

We disagree with him. There is no convincing argument for poor spelling. To be able to spell is to be able to use the language to its greatest potential, and that is what we should be teaching our children.

We are calling on all parents, teachers and other people who are responsible for raising and educating future generations, to sign our petition. This petition will be presented at the Houses of Parliament on 17 November 2008 when we meet with members of parliament on this and other plain English matters.

Is Twin Titties worth a visit,
never been in it.
Is it part of The RATFEST?

Yes it was worth a visit
No it wont be part of RATFEST  the land owner closed the cave years ago.

I hope you are not suggesting that she was so unimpressed with Mendip
that she will not return

Far from it; I was merely pointing out that the original query was for Mendip caves worth a visit by some cavers who were visiting on 1st-2nd November and therefore any additional information offered in this thread to the planner of the trip(s) after that date is, to state the blinkin' obvious, a bit late.

Also, it would appear that she is/was not "so unimpressed with Mendip that she will not return" since if you read you will see that she wrote "I am going to be down Mendip again this weekend".

I'm going to be down Mendip again this weekend and my plan is to visit some new caves I haven't been to before.
I'd appreciate any comments/advice/etc. on whether they are worth a visit or not... THANKS!

On my list I have:

- Thrupe Lane Swallet (I found a topo on the CSCC website: 25m, 40m, and 40m rope is this enough?)
- Hunter's Hole (Also CSCC topo: 50m main pitch, Sago 30m, Traverse 50 or Direct route 35m)

- Read's Cavern (are the boulders really very loose??)
- Quaking House Cave (bit short at 300m?)
- Cuckoo Cleeves (worth a poke at only 320m??)
- Honeymead Hole (3 ladders seem excessive for a 380m cave, is it worth it?)

Any other suggestions to keep me entertained?

Cheers xx
Thanx to the lovelly C.S.C.C. it is now possible to s.r.t. Manor Farm Swallet,
although essentially only two pitches, it is not a bad trip as this is one of the few caves on Mendip that starts with pitches but goes on to have a fair amount of actual cave.

Oh, it is only a silly rumour that the land owner of Manor Farm Swallet shuts the cave.
:greed:
Show him your gold and it is open.
;D
