New CSCC padlocks

I remember how hard it was trying to get the Drenen key, so much so I have not bothered going back, though from what I read it seems I just need to pick a spot on the ground and dig down a few feet to get in lol.

Since October, there has been a new PDCMG Permit Secretary (Dan Thorne) who lives fairly locally. It should now not be so hard to get a key and I am sure he would love to hear from you (when I last spoke to him in early December he had received only a single application and the person who made it then changed their mind and failed to pick up the key!).

Otherwise, there are two ungated "non approved" entrances (Drws Cefn & Nunnery) on open access (and urban common) land where keys are not required.

All much easier than digging your own way in, I can assure you!

Yes, thanks for the photo Maj. I happen to have the same type of padlocks on my outdoor locker up here in the Lake District. Pretty good as it happens.

Bloody hell, what a load of bickering over nothing. They are only changing the keys because they can't get blanks for the old ones any more.

Don't think I would fit now. I did go in there when the other series was being explored. It was an interesting day out!

Descent magazine 262, June/July 2018, reports that all the locks have been changed. I'm not at all sure this is correct so I strongly advise taking both old and new keys until CSCC clarify the position.

Can confirm from a frustrating experience today, they haven't all been changed. Also learnt that the CSCC access officer doesn't have any CSCC keys to lend out, and that UKCaving is more up to date when it comes to access information than the CSCC's own access database :-\

At the last CSCC meeting I remember someone saying that none of the 'popular' caves had been changed over except Cuckoo Cleeves. I wouldn't be surprised if the two-key situation lasts for a while...

Is that because most of the popular caves don't have cscc locks..?

Landowners also have to be given keys before the locks are changed.
