OFD permits

Hi All
Does anyone know what's happening with permits? Our club (GSS) secretary has sent off a permit application form a month ago and has heard nothing. She's also emailed the guy who deals with permits over a week ago and has heard nothing. Now our club permit has expired.

I believe Exeter Uni is in the same position. We've turned up at the SWCC and explained our position to the hut warden who has issued us a temporary permit for free, I think.

YUCPC have had ours renewed since the start of this month. I recall we forgot last year, but turned up at the SWCC and were sorted out for the week we were there.

Dear cricleymal, Your Secretary actually posted the GSS permit Application form by snail mail (thats standard UK postal service) at some point in time after 16th January 2020.  It was given to me by hand this Saturday just gone.  The Annual Permit for Gloucester has been issued today.

Dear aricooperdavis, Exeter University failed to renew their Annual Permit for OFD throughout the entire year of 2019.  I dealt with a telephone call from SWCC Duty officer on a recent Saturday morning as a group of Exeter Uni members had turned up unaware that Exeter had been without an annual permit for an entire year.  I issued a date specific permit for Exeter uni there and then so that the caving that they had planned could go ahead.  The simple problem here is that the e-mail contact address for some UK caving clubs keeps moving.  I keep on sending application forms to whoever the previous contact for the club was and often I get no acknowledgment or reply, that person has moved on and the club has failed to notify me of the new current e-mail address.  I have indeed sent a nice fresh application form to Exeter University through the contact established recently.  As yet I have not received an acknowledgement or a reply.    If you know who the club secretary is please ask them to e-mail me at ofdaccess@hotmail.co.uk

Yes I know when she posted it. Seems a very long time even for snail mail. No email reply from you as of this morning though.

Anyway thanks for sorting it.

As a regional access officer, i'd be interested in knowing what purpose the permit system serves.  Doesn't the club own some of the cave land now?  Genuine interest - PM me if you don't wish to answer in public.  Cheers in advance.

Dear aricooperdavis...

Hi GaryV,
Thanks for letting me know :) I don't actually know much about this, I just remember one of the committee chatting about it at the pub recently - it came up because CHECC has been very good at reminding the Uni clubs to renew their permits this year.
I'll pass your message on to the committee so they can follow up.
