yes buddy, you can see the cutting from the fire road above, about 30 feet long, its been partly back filled but easy to slip in through an iron gate and in, interesting inside worth a look and a fun abseil down although wetYeah that's it. We were looking at it from the bottom wondering what was at the top! So there is an entrance near Kneebones that leads straight to the top of the rope?
Chris.
Guilty as charged. We tried to divert the water into drainpipes to make it more comfortable when we first dropped the shaft. There was a lot of debris to clear so it took a few visits. At the time, we had no idea we were going to drop into Parc 3 so it was rather a surprise when Simon and I found ourselves in that familiar level. Also rather relief that we wouldn't have to prussic back up but could scoot around the usual route instead.yeah where you looking up into it or down? there's a drain pipe that runs half way down someone's put in, would be nice idea if it went all the way down tho lol kinda ends ring where there's a small undercut and you get soaked.. got a short video somewhere i think....

Nice to hear others have found that shaft. It'd be a nice backup if Fucheslas ever gets blocked.
oh wow great stuff, nice to talk to someone whose worked in the mine although after its closure let me know if your looking for an apprentice lolIn the early 90's when we installed the surge dam in No.3, we used a small winze from a short adit just above Kneebone. We put in plastic pipes to shoot the concrete down for the dam. The pipe was fed by a klondyke style wriggly tin chute that the concrete lorries, parked on the track could deliver into. After we had finished we put a concrete cap over the winze as it was only just inside the short adit and would be easy to fall down. The adit was then fitted with a fixed grill.
I you go just outbye of the dam and look up you will see the winze, it has loads of concrete splatter down the walls!
yeah i think your probably right, thats a good cross cut map that, can i ask where from?I believe the red rope is in the Rise on this section.
Chris.
Its your fault Roy am so obsessed with Cyffty 😂 am local to the Gwydyr to to if I can ever helpReading all this is making me feel hungry, hungry to get undergound again.
I am into a big project at home I want to get finished before I get older. Yes Tom, western Cwffty is still on my mind.
In the 90's there were three big schemes to rectify problems and make stuff safe. We had the contract for the first two, which were mainly mining type work. The final phase went to Jones Bros. of Ruthin and was mainly earthworks, including the Parc reservoir.oh wow great stuff, nice to talk to someone whose worked in the mine although after its closure let me know if your looking for an apprentice lol

As well as the surge dam we capped a load of shafts, sealed Cyfty adit and reopened Hafna adit. Plus we put bat grills on everything!
Sadly you're out of luck for an apprenticeship, I have now retired. Only go underground for fun now.

I remember visiting Aberllyn in the late 90's when that was being gated. We happened to arrive when floor 3 (or maybe 4) had been dug open by a mini excavator, which was still sat by the portal. So we went in and had a very good exploration. In the 90's there were three big schemes to rectify problems and make stuff safe. No, we didn't do that one. After the main works I believe the forestry paid for a few extras to a local contractor to do the bits they wanted gating.I remember visiting Aberllyn in the late 90's when that was being gated. Next time we visited, the gates were up!
Was that you as well Les?
Chris.
Careful Tom, don't wet 'em. We all drove Land Rovers in those days before it became a cult thing!I see the wheel of a landrover defender / 90/110/130
