Excuse me, I am thinking of possibly making a visit to Rhino Rift.

Can anyone kindly direct me to, or PM me, a rigging guide.
Advice would be most welcome.

thank you

This was recently placed on the CSCC web site -

This report has been received from Chris Binding confirming the reports of a loose P-Hanger.

"I visited Rhino on 6th Dec and the second bolt of the first y-hang is 1-2mm "loose" (both pull and twist); photo attached showing crack*. It now has a sign fixed to it warning that it is loose pending further examination/replacement. IMHO it is probably fine to load as the egree from the rock is minimal so forces applied to it will be transferred A OK but anyone checking it will think "*Ooer, missus; titter ye not"."

NB +/- 1mm of movement is allowable. This is just outside of that, so there is no need to panic, but it clearly needs to be fixed before long.

I'm sure it will be fixed, just as soon as the BCA manages to source a suitable supply of resin. This seems to be an issue at the moment.

only a couple of mm? No worries, those P bolts are the very devil to extract and replace, even when able to rotate 360 and move out nearly full depth it is still a good hernia to remove one...
However, your life - your choice!

Yes, thanks for comments so far – its highlighted what I had also found.

Rhino is only a few minutes walk from our cabin but regretfully we left rigging details there, not with us here in Surrey so that's why I must confess I asked for help. And the fact I've never done Rhino so was real interested in peoples experience and rigging details.

Hi Geoff,
there are two guys in your club: AB and MM - Both sterling chaps - recommend you take them along and buy them beer all weekend. ;-)

Had an excellent time in Rhino with MM and AB on Saturday (18/3/06) - 3 people worked out ideal. Really enjoyed rigging P2. Bottomed P3 for lunch. MM explored just a little further before we started the long climb out.

Finished off with another first class days caving on Sunday with other WCMS members in our 6 x party.

Excellent caving, excellent company ! !
Thanks all

:D :D

there is supposed to be a new hole opened up in the longwood stream
did u see it?

We walked down Longwood in December when the stream was all the way down; a lot of water was going down an old DIG below Rhino at the time.
On Saturday the water was very low and had gone long before the L/A blockhouse.

I don't remember seeing an old dog [that's what was written before it got corrected!!] in Long Wood. It's interesting to see how rumours spread. Cap'n Chris - have you got something to do with this ?

It's all a question of being in the right place at the right time. On that December weekend, I witnessed water sinking in a place I hadn't noticed it sinking before. I am still waiting for an opportunity to investigate further. It's all above board and legit. I wouldn't get too excited about it, however. It's just that it is a convenient location for me and my colleagues, apart from being some 150 miles from home

I want to conduct the preliminary investigation, but thereafter it would probably be best followed up by cavers living close by, assuming there is something worth following up.

Nothing to do with me, Pete; by the way have you heard that a Mendip caver is buying Whitewalls?

What, Whitewalls on Llangattock, the Chelsea SS's headquarters?
or is there another Whitewalls?

Asking permission before doing anything might be a good idea.

Already done, Graham! - Check CSCC minutes for February meeting, C&A item 9.11

O ye of little faith.

I see the insidious drip, drip, drip, of insinuations about certain people not asking for permission has got to you, Graham.
