Well then - Me Rachel Mrs Fell and newboy Simon - met in Inglesport cafe, first thing this morning.Initially there was a feast of beans on toast and bacon butties - however as I had breakfasted earlier on organic muesli, fresh orange juice and probiotic yogurt - I was not about to spoil the sanctity of my digestive system, as my compatirates were doing. There were numerous references to what vast quantities of digesting beans could do the the quality of the atmosphere in the cave. Rachel had a huge amount of beans - dont know where she put them all!!
As new recruit Simon was with us (and as Cavedrone was off doing other things) we somehow hit upon the idea of doing S----- ---e. We cant even mention the name of this hole now, as to do so would provoke red mist rage within the Cavedrone - so this report has been prepared with him in mind. We took the decision that we dident want to upset him, even though he was not in the area. Anyway S----- ---e is in C----- -- ---e and has three cascades and a nice pitch at the end - which although I say is the end, is not really the end - it was just the end for us today.
It was really foggy up in the Dales today and after we had changed Mrs Fell went off for a walk down C----- -- ---e, vanishing into the mist back towards Ingleton. The rest of the party headed off for S----- ---e. On the way over Scales Moor and Whernside just started to become visable from amidst all the clag - and the scene was quite etherial - or was this just the beans starting to work!
The inward trip went well and Simon was well impressed with the rock sculpture and formations (please note Cavedrone). The pitch was rigged and Rachel and myself descended. Simon was given an explanation of what was going on and he seemed very interested - but as it was his first time out,SRT would have to wait for another time.
On thing about S----- ---e, is that the pitch is always described as being a fifty footer - and yet somehow it seems further. Is it just me or is this old age setting in?
The prussick back up the pitch was fine - although it has been a while since either of the descenders had done any ropework - so this served to tone a few muscles up.
Pitch derigged and we made our way out, passing a group on their way in at the first cascade. We were soon out, to be greeted by even more fog than before. This made navigation back to the cars a bit more interesting than usual - but we missed the fine views of Ribblehead and the Whernside massif.
Back in Inglesport cafe, we met up with Mrs Fell again and upon my recommendation Simon partook of Tracey`s excellent cheese and tomato sandwiches on brown (with side salad).Mrs Fell had a donut and I cant remember what Rachel had - but it wasnt beans.
An excellent day out - even though it was S----- ---e ! 8)
