    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Should we still be caving?

With the weather getting warmer there is a lot of things you can do at home on your own back lawn. Yoga suggested but other things can be learned off the Internet and practised.

My martial arts includes the art of the Jo staff. This is not only good fun but can prove useful later in life for self defence if one has to carry a stick.
It can be practised with an ordinary broom stale, but ensure that there are no rough bits that could produce a splinter.

Karate can be practised on ones own, but difficult to learn correct techniques without an instructor.
If anyone interested I can give you some web links to look at as well as useful advice.

I think you need to start your own YouTube channel!

The weekend idiots have brought this on. I was on my own all day Sunday and set off at 07.15. Five minutes from my home what did I see, a car boot sale!

Anyway, what have I been up to at Cwmystwyth. Well when all this nightmare is over people who visit the place can take a stroll through Freemans Adit. This is directly opposite Taylors up Nant yr Onnen. Portal is blocked as always been but late last year a run of ground after heavy rain opened up a hole right on the leat about 6 to 8 feet deep enabling access to the level. Its only a trial leading to a chamber with a borehole, but has a few artefacts.

There was obviously a Health and Safety issue plus danger to livestock so I built up the inside with backfilled walls and capped the top with reinforced concrete, leaving an entry hatch and fixed ladder.

Nice little job but carrying the bags of sand and cement up the mountainside was hard work.

People may have seen you drive to your special place and not felt as socially irresponsible in heading over to Snowdonia themselves for some fresh air.

Stop thinking your activities are special.

You're not stuck in traffic, you are traffic.

BCA have published their advice- https://british-caving.org.uk/wiki3/doku.php

For me it is still ambiguous

It does not (and should) include words to the effect of "DO NOT GO CAVING"

BCA have no remit to tell us what to do. They are suggesting it's not essential, which is fine in my book.

My opinion on this is simple, it will do none of us any harm to knock it on the head for while.
The caves and mines will still be there when all of this is over.

When we start caving again (perhaps with social distance) what caves would we do?

I can think of plenty of SRT trips where social distancing wouldn't be much of an adjustment though the cafe before and pub after are half the trip for me.

Unfortunately living outside of a caving area and having lost one income I'm wondering if it will be an option to travel to go on trips even once the restrictions are lifted. We've already taken one of our vehicles off the road to save cost. I'm also expecting work to want to 'catch-up' when things get back to normal so I'm hearing rumblings we may be expected to avoid taking leave once we return.

I think I may be hanging up my helmet for a while.

Sorry if this sounds a bit negative
