. It sounds like a bit of a scouts-group style trip, quite a nice idea.
I would take exception to that presumption, The scout teams that I know are better prepared than most trips underground from other cavers. Our team caves with scouts mainly in mendips and judging by the rigging seen from many cavers they would not get a permit to take scouts caving. please think carefully when making such statements which are simply ill advised.

I was waiting for somebody to pick up on that. I would presume that Ari didn't mean that to be scout bashing. I read it more as in giving reason as to why a group of youngsters would go underground if they weren't 'cavers'. Almost like a team building exercise or character building whatever you want to call it. One of OP's original queries was why they would have gone underground and I think Ari was drawing a parallel with scouts.

So simmer down badge  ;)

My apologies badger, didn't mean to knock the scouts in the slightest! I meant more that they're probably not just a football team, but also a friendship group with someone at the helm that makes other fun things happen too (which would be why they're caving). Again, my apologies, I didn't express myself very well there.

I realise I'm known for questioning the status quo, but the OP is batshit, lead paint eating, padded cell crazy. Or a very, very poor troll. For the purposes of this thread, we'll assume the former.

"Questions" - You should probably stop watching Infowars and start taking your medication. I have yet to see anyone with your utter lack of ability with regard to spelling and grammar claim to be a journalist. That's astonishing, even by conspiracy theorist standards. I suggest an emergency session with your psychiatric consultant is urgently needed.

to answer a question semi-reasonably, what equipment are you expecting them to wear? a neo-furry and PVC oversuit? wellies and marigolds?

the caves in SE asia are pretty damn warm. Those used to trekking on the terrain around here will wear sandals/flip flops no problem on sections that those around the world wouldn't dare to.

I think that's the big difference: caves tend to be quite close to the average annual temperature of the outside world of where ever they are located. Skipton has an average annual temperature of just 9C - whereas the Thai province where the cave rescue is taking place has an average annual temperature of nearly 25C. A team stuck in a British cave for as long would be at serious risk of hypothermia if they went in without warm clothing - but the Thai situation would be warmer than most people heat their houses. It's no surprise that a group could go caving in shorts & football tops and be able to survive for days.

i have caved in Thailand this year. I can assure you you can spend hours underground in shorts and a T shirt. In fact anything else for me personally would have been very unpleasant. I also spent long periods partially immersed in the cave water, attempting to push ducks. We also had  quite young children doing long 1km trips similarly kitted and getting wet. None got particularly cold. You can survive for weeks without eating if you have a water source. Questions comments are typical of conspiracy theorists who have little knowledge of what they write. I also will be seeing Rob Harper probably in the next few weeks to ensure he hasn't been brainwashed ;).  I apologise if this repeats some other comments but I couldn't be bothered to read all the preceding posts.

Conspiracy theorists abound and can be surprisingly intelligent people. From personal experience I usually suscribe to the 'cock up theory' of life. Occam's Razor comes in handy too.

One from my Thailand trip this year.

What Peter says is quite true. Also I think you will find that Thai children of that age are far more resilient than our own in the UK. They are quite used to an adventurous life outdoors. What to us here might seem unreasonable ( and probably would never be sanctioned ) is fairly normal in Thailand. I really cannot where the OP is coming from. Certainly bordering close to trolling.

I wish we could use another word instead of trolling. It's what I do when I go out spinning for mackerel and it seems a misuse of the word.

May I present two scenarios:

1)  One day some guy wakes up and thinks, ?Wouldn?t it be great to stage one of the biggest hoaxes in history . . . let?s see, we?ll put it about that the Queen?s having a baby? No, a bit far-fetched. Hmm, Mother Teresa of Calcutta gave birth to a kitten when she was 16? No, same. A London bus has been seen on the Moon? . . . nah, it?s been done. Let?s think; I know, a bunch of kids get lost in a cave in Thailand and have to be rescued by an international team. Yeah, that?s the one?. Now this must have been months ? maybe even years ? ago, on account of all the organization involved. Thousands of people would have to have been in on the secret, including the King of Thailand, the Prime Minister of Thailand, several Thai generals, and a whole bunch of tough hard Thai Navy SEALS, not to mention all the foreigners . . . Americans, Chinese, British, Australian, and no doubt many others, with all the attendant problems of language barriers (and, of course the THAI Airline). Oh ? one more thing, it?s going to cost millions of pounds/dollars/whatever.

2)  A bunch of kids go on an adventure and something goes wrong.

Perhaps the OP should apply Occam?s Razor to his idea.

Applying Occam's Razor would mean abandoning a scenario where 'questions' has knowledge that no-one else has.

Because isn't that the basic premise of Conspiracy Theories?

If they hired the same people that faked the moon landings, which is on a similar scale, they could get away with it...  :-\

Or maybe some people just got unlucky in a rainstorm.
